Well, that will protect the painted surface from contaminants, but not heat from the brakes.

Like you mentioned before as long as you are street driving the car, the painted surface should be fine.

The coating on the calipers and wheels will keep them clean much longer and brake dust is likely to accumulate. Have done it to all of my cars with painted calipers and wheels. No wheel cleaner required, everything just hose right off.
Yeah, I am probably doing it soon lol. I'll see what my detailed friend tells me and I'll go from there. Need to protect my R10Ds
