My honest opinion of BMW is that they are going away from leasing hoping to reestablish themselves as a brand who's car you can keep and be happy with for a longer period of time. Making the leasing less attractive will hopefully get people to buy rather than lease. Then BMW doesn't have to take take the losses they do when selling their off leased vehicles to dealers nationwide.
Take a look at how much extended warranties cost. BMW is not interested in me keeping my cars past factory warranty.
