From a volumetric efficiency perspective, the new "S55" will compete with, and likely exceed, the Nissan VR38 motor. It is just that BMW doesn't have as much displacement to work with. Not that this fact is of any real consolation when it comes down to overall performance, but it is what it is. BMW will also make up some ground against their competition (which, strictly speaking, doesn't really include the GTR anyway) by being somewhat lighter that they are.
