I used position 2 and it works exactly as it did when we took delivery in Munich, popping up automatically at a decent rate (not too fast, not too slow) to allow loading into the truck.
I just have the oem lid spoiler on the lid as it came from factory and I did add a license plate frame grab, other than that no extra weight.
