This is correct, the launch control can act very odd.

I have a '18 ZCP. Even when I was 100% bone stock and after the 1200 mile break in service, letting off the brakes after seeing the checkered flags come up would be one of three things-

1. Launches as intended with minimal wheel slip and great acceleration (happened 33% of the time)
2. Wheels spun and revs went straight to redline with absolutely zero traction (happened 50%)
3. Car would have moderate wheel spin off the line (for about 0.5 seconds and I would move maybe 2 meters) and then completely cut power to the wheels, despite having never let off the throttle (happened a few times)

After tuning the car, it launched properly MOST of the time but still does #3 from above.

It no longer spins into oblivion (#1) though.
