Yes, this is "normal" behavior for the car, and I do the same thing the OP does which is grabbing a paddle to manually upshift, but I'd like to disagree with the folks who say this is perfectly reasonable and the car thinks you are in "race" mode. IMHO that's pretty crappy electronic logic at this stage of the development of DCTs. What part of letting off the gas COMPLETELY for over a second or two and NOT getting on the brakes is the CPU interpreting as "I want to still drive aggressively"? Seems to me that this sort of driving is sending the message that "I'm done accelerating and I'd like to resume normal service now, please". This is especially true when in standard/default/efficiency throttle mode. I might be able to understand the DCTs logic of holding the gear in Sport or SportPLus modes, but it makes no sense at all in the default mode.
