Agreed - I have a hard time thinking they would make any wiring differences, but spent too much time diagnosing and know enough about electronics to know I just didn't have enough power.
My V1 turns off several minutes later, I never noticed when the compass turns off vs. my V1 connected to the rain sensor, so I'll chime back in if it sheds any light.
