Yeah. Wheels got snatched in Parma overnight. But, even though that happened, the BMW insurance has been excellent so far (as the OP mentioned).
And Italy is beautiful. Lake Como was absolutely our favorite so far. I took a video driving around the lake to show the experience. When I get back, I'll post it up. The OP's assessment is spot on - hair raising, but a blast.
