I actually had the very same thought as you ----- I assumed the valves opened right away when in sport+ but that's not the case. I found that it seems like the valve isn't consistent in sport+, meaning sometimes downshifts sound louder than other times so not sure when valves are actually opened.
I did the unplug mod but it's too loud on cold start. It sounds MUCH better in low RPMs with valve open. All I would want is to start car with valves closed and as soon as I leave my complex open them up.
