It is also 2x more stiff. anyway you look at it CF is more durable than steel in any scenario as demonstrated by the steel vs CF driveshaft stress test seen online. Steel is still used in landing gears because it's a cheaper material that gets the job done. However new designs out by Plane manufacturers are full of CF parts.
