Dealer did Break in service at 350 miles???
My car came in to the dealer from my ED trip with 350 miles. Dealer said the key showed break in service recommended so they did it without authorization. They said their BMW rep said that it was okay but I should still follow break I'm rules completely and no break in service is needed at 1200.
Not too pleased. Anyone else experience this.? |

I find that pretty odd. Logic would say the 1,200 run-in is to mesh all mechanical parts together and get the metal out of the fluids - especially considering tight tolerances, pumps, mesh screens, and oil-operation VVT w/in the engine. Debris = bad.
Also, they may utilize a break-in oil in the engine, but that's unconfirmed. If it was my car, I'd do another oil service before 2,000 miles and possibly the 6MT and rear differential. For my F82, I will wait until I hit 1,200 miles for the service. My car is counting down the miles and warns me each start-up. -Brian |
