Disconnecting exhaust

Hey guys I was going to disconnect the collector? I think thats the name of it anyway. Its the first part of the exhaust thats visible from under the car. I just wanted to test it out and see what it would sound like, so i was just wondering if that would cause any damage to my car. Thanks for any help.

in other words, muffler delete? look at the turbo subforum, there's video sound clips of many exhaust setups for 335.

No, not the muffler. Sorry if im not describing it very well as i have very little knowledge on the subject. Its the very first part visible under the car NEAR the engine. Its not by the rear bumper.

Yeah I believe it could be the headers. Anyway just wanted to disconnect it underneath and hear it out. Would there be any side affects to that?

So you want to remove the exhaust from where it connects to the downpipes? It can be done.

So your wanting to disconnect where I've marked in the picture? It won't hurt anything other than your emissions, and your ears. You would be cutting out the 2nd cats. It would also sound like a tractor with a bad exhaust leak.

Yeah thats the part. If I were to drive with it disconnected would I need to secure the other half of the exhaust to something? Or would it be able to support itself?

There is also the minor annoyance of carbon monoxide in the passenger compartment - that's why the exhaust pipes come out of the back of the car and not under the car.

On the upside, carbon monoxide is odorless so you won't know when it kills you.

Why am I always the one to have to point out unintended consequences?

Dude... don't do it... There is no reason. The car will sound horrible and you will reduce back-pressure that the engine needs. Not to mention you will ruin the environment. lmbo...

Back pressure? It's a turbo car. The less back pressure you have, the better in terms of performance. That's why turbo drag cars run huge side exhausts.
That said, I do agree, there is no reason to disconnect the exhaust on our cars. Imagine a nice clean E9X rolling down the street, looks great, but, it sounds like a damn tractor. Does not fit.

Hey, what can I say... I care about the environment... I live in NYC where it is polluted and dirty to the brim... No need to add to the problem...

Probably better you don't mess with stuff unless you understand exactly why it's there to begin with. That being said, just enjoy your fine piece of German engineering and "donna toucha nothin". You'll be better off.
