Found a car, question about Driver Assistance Plus
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com My question is whether you can turn off all of the assistance features and have them stay off by default (ie. when I turn the car off then back on, they stay off). Thanks for any help! |

The ones in my M6 stay off, I'm not sure about the ones in my M4.

I have all mine on but never use them and they don't get in my way.. Occasionally I get the red car, but whatever, haven't experienced any downside yet.

I wouldn't let them worry if. If you are not bothered about the expense, the fact that the car you want comes with these features shouldn't be a turn off. I seem to remember with mine that when I last switched them off, they stayed off until I switched them on again.
I'll go and check for you now...

Yes, if you switch them off with the controls to the left of the steering wheel (assuming left-hand drive) then they do not come back on when you start the car the next time.
Who says we are not a helpful community... James.

Me too. I always figure better to be safe than sorry! I have yet to see the "red car of death." It put this down to the fact I am still in break-in mode rather than I have been driving around like a maniac - either that, or I am just a great driver
Blind-spot detection is useful, not necessary, but I have been surprised at how useful lane departure warning is. I never text and drive or even phone and drive, but it has surprised me the amount of time you can start to drift without realizing it. It is good that you get the warning before you actually change lanes. The only thing than annoys me is that you have to use your turn signal to stop it activating. I am originally from the UK and over there, when going through your advanced driver training, you are taught not to use your turn signals unless there is someone that would benefit from the information. The argument is that this process actually makes you more aware and makes you physically check every time to see whether or not they are needed. Too many accidents have been caused by people who put their turn signals on and just start to change lanes because they are "safe" now they have indicated their intention.

They stay on if you leave them on and off if you leave them off, or mix and match which ones you want on or off. I just leave off lane departure in the city because I switch lanes at will, but on the hiway all are on.
Either way they don't bother me but they do help. |
