Castrol SRF?

Hi all, looking for some info on the SRF brake fluid. I see on the Castrol site that it is a "silicon ester" while BMW advises in no uncertain terms to not use silicone based brake fluids.

Does this mean SRF should not be run in our brake systems if concerned about system integrity over the long haul?

Thanks!

I can't say for a BMW specifically, but we use it and nothing else in our racing operations and race bikes. At $75 a liter, if we could find better for the cost, we would. I can assure you, every Indy car team uses it as a standard. The benefit is the lack of accumulating moisture. That said, unless you are tracking, can't see the expense

I use it for a month, no issues or anything, I'm feeling happy about the pedal feel. Can't comment about the performance since I haven't used it on a track day yet.
I gave it to the BMW official dealer during a usual service to use it instead of oem brake fluid, I assume if there was a problem about it they would warn me.

Castrol SRF is very popular and we have been using it in customer cars for years. Only positive feedbacks from our customers. It is a bit pricey, but you save money in the long run.

Thank you. I'm running motul 600 now and want to go to the SRF for this season.

Good info thanks. Funny enough I have a warranty flush coming up so called my dealer who said I could not provide my own fluid and still have the labor covered as included maintenance. Trying to get around that possibly using a different dealer if this is true.

SRF also has a much higher wet boiling temp(I think a full 100F higher) than Motul 600 so if you forget to bleed your brakes for a few events you know you still have a fairly high boiling temp.

Good info, thanks. If going to SRF would you still recommend a full flush each year, or a partial and a good bleed? The fluid isn't cheap, and the Motul did me well last year.

One more question - how many quarts should I need for a flush to be done ridding the car of the M-600?

Much appreciated.

Depending on how hard you drive the car and the temps the fluid is exposed to. If you left in the Motul for the entire year, then you should be able to go longer on the SRF with bleed and fill. It's still a good idea to flush it out at the end of each season though. At $80 it's not bad consider you pay a lot more than that for a track day or track pads. You don't want boiling fluid to ruin your day at the track, right?

Anyone know if we can use SRF in the CCB system? I notice the new brake fluid is "low viscosity."

I've been for a year now and no issues.

Thanks. I have it in my e92 but just noticed this "low viscocity" nomenclature. You do stainless lines? I did ECS ones on my e92 also. The 2 little ones in the back left rear were a pain; ones at corners were easy as normal with line wrenches.

The 2 little ones are never fun to do, even on a lift!

How many 1L bottles do I need to do a flush? I’m due for a brake flush and want to move over to SRF.

I used 1.5L and the rest for topping off if you need some. Suck out the reservoir first.

1L is fine. Usually I have about 150-200mL leftover.

Just one if you know what you're doing, unfortunately SRF doesn't come in 0.5L bottles, otherwise I'd say you could use 1.5L to be extra safe
