M3 DCT 0-100 mph in 8.7 seconds (Chris Harris)

harrismonkey: 8.7seconds. That's how long it takes a new M3 with DCT transmission to accelerate from 0-100mph. Bit outrageous that.

How does this stack up against other cars in this category? Heading should say M3 not M4.

Great time.

Might need some if this goes like UAE247s 0-62 thread though.

For reference, looking at C&D, they tested a 2013 M5 0-100mph in 8.3 and that's with a 12.0 @ 122mph 1/4 mile.

Looks like the M3 does 0-100 mph around or .1 seconds faster than a pdk Porsche carerra S from this techical spec sheet.

Very nice!

Still projecting a 12.2 1/4 mile time for this car. Which will be a healthy improvement.

Tuned (software only) F80s and F82s should be in the high 11s.

Keep in mind that the M3's and M4's all these Auto Jounalists are driving in Portugal all probably have a Press Tune on the engine. But hey BMW did that on the F10 M5 launch too.

Even Chris Harris says it's a statement of fact that manufacturers give the press different cars than what the production versions will be.

So not to rain on anyone's parade, but let's wait and see what real customers start getting in a couple of months.

The article is abour Ferrari. I seriously doubt that BMW had a special tune in those press cars. For reference, uae247 did the 0-160km/h in 8.8s with his private car...

But UAE247 had desert sand blowing around on the desert road when he did his runs so not that accurate either. LOL! Just kidding.

It's fact that BMW released the F10 M5 with a special Press Tune on it for Press Reviewers to drive back in 2012. Gave it something like an extra 30hp or something. There have been insiders within GmbH who have revealed this as fact. Wouldn't be surprised if it was the same with the new M3/M4. Just sayin' bro, just sayin'.

I have confirmation from people within the tuning industry that the "Press Tune" is not a urban myth for the F10 M5. It's the basis for the ONLY software remap available for the F10.

I have NO idea about the F8x though. But as posted above, the only customer delivered F8x we know of did a 8,8s 0-100 time.

a .4 second difference to 100mph between the M5 and M3 is really impressive looking at the se numbers. I thought it would be closer to 1 second.

I hope it did 0-100 km/h in faster than 8.8 sec or the 328i will be faster right?

I'm sure these cars have a press tune, but it's still an impressive time.

0.1 seconds difference between UAE's time and the Press Reviewers time would be about 15hp-20hp I'd guess. With the extra 15hp on the M5's Comp Pack, the 0-60 time is reduced by 0.1 seconds also. So it's not within the realm of impossibility that BMW gave the new M3/M4's in Portugal a little extra oomph for good old Chris Harris.

Agreed!

Just remember that 0,4s at 100MPH equals a distance delta of 17,8m (or roughly 4 car lengths...)

It won't be that exact distance between the cars, as the gap develops over a speed from 0-100MPH. But at a steady 100MPH, a gap of 0,4s between two cars, means a distance between them of roughly 4 car lengths. So it will not necessarily look that impressive watching them do a head to head race...

Yup 4 cars lengths to 100mph would sound about right according to your math. Beyond 100mph the gap just grows and grows like what happened in Gustav's Video against the 991 Carrera 2S.

Let the M5 owners swoop in and remind everyone that at high speeds a car with 100+ horsepower will be faster!

You cannot do the math that way. You cannot mix time to distance and time to speed.

Further, we do not know how the numbers were achieved for both cars (1 foot roll out for example).

That's the published number.

0-60 3.9s all day long from many people. 991.2 will have more hp i'm sure in '16

http://fastestlaps.com/cars/porsche_991_carrera_s.html

0-60 3.5s and 0-100 8.4s

Nice

So almost same numbers
I bet its colder there with more trees around, hence the extra oxygen.

Need to retest at around 4 or 5am to compare in terms of weather.
