Bavsound amp issues
Hi everyone
Was wondering if anyone has had issues w a high pitch whine after installing the Bavsound amp? I just finished the install today and noticed a high pitch whine I didn’t notice it right after the install just this evening. Any advice would be appreciated could it be one of the settings on the amp or a bad ground? Thanks |

Check the wiring paying special attention to the input wiring section and ensure the connector has seated properly.
Not so sure about what’s causing hiss, but in other systems you can get it when the analogue gains are set to high. With the whine check your battery feed cable isn’t in close proximity to your input cables and if so try moving it away from them and test again. Also double check the amp earth . Maybe some terminal grease on the connector to ensure a good earth. |

Couldn’t solve it… tore it apart double checked all the connections.. ground and power cable look good..
took the ASD bypass on and off and whine was still there…. Played w the sound stage settings and it was still there The whine is there even if the volume is zero and in Drive Put the stock amp back in and everything is back to normal Dilemma is do I return the stage 1 speakers and ghost amp. Doesn’t seem worth it rubbing it w a stick amp or do I just have a bad amp… I’ll call bavsound tomorrow |

It should not do that at all so either your equipment or install has an issue.
If your ground is good and the 12v cable isn’t running across other signal wires it points to the equipment. I recently had to replace their most adapter as the original one just died on me for no discernible reason. They’re pretty helpful and responsive tho. Let us know what you find out. |

Was looking at that install video. That power
and earth path needs improvement . In my opinion the earth lead is far too long and would be better using the earth terminal on the left tire well point ( the bolt where the earth Combe is ) or even the factory amp mounting bolt area which is close to the amp Both power and earth have run points either side of the trunk and will rub up against the chassis. I would use an extra sleeve / cable armour at those points as would be concerned about the risk that poses over time. And then there is leaving that much power cable coiled up sitting on top of the amp. Shakes head. Personally I’d try and keep the power input from sitting that close to the ASD module. It’s amps are classs d and oscillates at am radio frequency. It could be a source of noise with a power cable sitting up against it or very close to it. They have probably developed it so that one power / earth cable fits all bmw installs rather than cut to length. What I’d do to troubleshoot is to run the power cable across the middle of the trunk and run a shorter earth lead. Keep positive power path away from ASD and see if hiss / whine stops. |

Hmmm I can coil it on the battery side. Think that would help?
I also added a bunch of sound deadening on the floor of the trunk I don’t think that has anything to do with it but I’m not sure. |

Coiling it on the other side would be a better but I wouldn’t go to the extent of foil wrapping it around the ASD.
Another thought is that have they disabled and dropped the gains on the analogue inputs when shipping these with use with most / digital connections ? Also , what do those dip switches do on the side of the amp ? Do they need to be set for the correct mode of operation ? Anything in a manual ? |

Sorry , I’m really out of suggestions , would contact bavsound and explain the situation. Digital feed amps should be almost completely silent at the speakers. Something else going on here.

It’s true that the power cable kit is designed to fit multiple cars which is why it’s so long, and also true that in an ideal setup you’d want the ground much shorter and no loop of 12v cable on anything.
In spite of that I have no noise in my system which makes me think it’s something else. |

Only other thought is source.
Do you run an aftermarket mmi module which piggy backs the aux input ? Could it be the noise source? Try listening to a different input such as usb or cd / dvd and check to see if noise is still there. |

Does sound like when alternator is charging ( drive / reverse ) . You can see if when alternator is changeing battery under on of the options the energy efficiency display.
Eitherway , the factory amp is able to deal with that any inline power noise. I’d get Bavsound to ship a replacement amp to try. . |
