Cool SNOW Performance deliver the water injection system to M4 GTS!

Spoke to the Swedish importer of the American German company www.snowperformance.eu they claim that BMW AG has bought the hardware from them to both the MOTO GP Safety Cars as well as the upcoming M4 "GTS".

BMW has a modified engine management but this system works just as well on a stock non tuned M4/M3. It is easy to install at a just 900 Euros.

I will install this in my M4. Less wear and tear on the engine + better performance and better gas milage.

They told you they are the supplier for the hardware for the M3 GTS water injection system? Nice, good to know, thank you.

Relief for anyone who wondered if the aftermarket system was inferior to BMWs...

do you really think that this thing works?

don't you have to set up your software when installing such a thing?
can't imagine to just plug this thing in - and my engine automatically produces 25% more power...

It works without reprogramming of the car (tuning).
The engine management system detects cooler and richer combustion. The timing and boost will automatically be higher. You tell the car you are on 116octane racing fuel.
All modern high tech knock sensors take advantage of better gas octane levels.

Aren't we running meth already for a few years on N54 and newer engines? I am running meth on my F20 N55 for like 18 months now.

Difference is, is that this is OEM and not aftermarket.

There are a few cars now running meth. Should be interesting to see how BMW incorporates this.

Water injection by BMW, 25% increase in power, better fuel economy, factory warranty, etc,...what isn't there to like! I'll take one if they are doable as a retrofit when available from BMW for my 2015.

I wonder if the retrofit will ever actually be available as opposed to having to buy direct from manufacturer - then you have to ask would installation basically void the car warranty? Looks really interesting and very cool - pun intended!

All good points... if an easy retro I can't see why they would not offer the new technology hardware like they do software updates and still keep warranty. I'm sure they would have a lot of takers! OTOH they might want to just offer it as a new product trickle down and force us to pay new car prices. I'm hoping the former. If not, next time around then.

I am wondering how one can use the water injection in the wintertime, mainly how it would handle the lines freezing?

Even if the OEM hardware was obtained, it won't be easy as the integration part (software end) it will likely be FSC locked.

This direction suggests of how limited the stock turbos really are in order to make big power. The Snow Performance systems are great, we've run a couple of their systems on past builds with zero trouble.

Quote:
For safety reasons, the BMW M water injection works with a sophisticated automatic diagnosis. Should the water tank be empty or parts of the system fail, appropriate measures will be taken to protect the power unit. Supercharging pressure and ignition point are cancelled, thus enabling continued operation of the engine without any restrictions other than reduced performance. However, a wide range of measures also ensures the functionality of the system during normal operation. After the engine has been turned off, the water is transported back from the pipeline into the tank, in order to prevent the system components freezing in minus temperatures. The water tank itself is also frost-proof.
Hope this helps!
