Car feeling faster at 3,000 Miles

Not sure if its just a placebo effect, but my car does feel a bit faster at 3,000 miles than it did directly after I received it back from the break in service....

Anybody else notice this at all or am I going to have to dial back on the coffee?

I'd dial back on the coffee.........I remember a few folks saying the same thing in 2008 about the e9X M3's after first service, like they released more HP or something!!??.....

I know most (modern) ECU's adjust and adapt as the mileage packs on. I have been driving the car a little harder as well now that Im finally past the "sky is falling dont look at my car the wrong way" phase.

Either way, it feels a bit nicer now that its fully broken in.

I was always under the impression that colder ambient temperatures benefit both NA and FI engines. The car does seem much happier in cooler weather albeit at sea level.

absolutely not, in fact it should affect boosted engines more.

The physics are simple... the colder the temperature the more oxygen per cubic inch which means the car produces more power.

Might be. I remember resetting the adaptive settings on my E55 AMG made a night and day difference in shifting and throttle response

In our case with turbos and electronics limiting them or boosting them when at elevation I don't think you will notice a power difference. The car may need to make more boost in hot or high altitude but it's intent is to give the same power regardless of external situation.

You will however feel more power if you can get it to the ground, these tires hookup much better when its warm.

This sounds quite normal and true. It happens with a lot of cars, as the engine breaks in and settles, it is more efficient at doing what it does. It may not be outright twenty horsepower/torque added but this is a natural effect and a difference in behaviour can be felt by those who have very sensitive and OCD butt dynos. I don't have hard data but I thought this was a well known fact.

Same context but using an athlete, as he matures from his teens into young adulthood, he gets stronger and faster. Or an athlete warming up the muscles and loosening the joints prior to a run vs walking out the front door straight into a run.

This has been discussed before to include the DCT which will get smoother with break-in. On my Evo X the DCT doesn't really break-in until about 5k miles at which point I did notice it to be smoother and more responsive and the noises it made were less "clanky" and more buzzy.

With the AC blowing, and multiple repeat pulls - you'll definitely notice heatsoak in extreme temperatures. Compare it to running the car in cold weather, where it pulls like a scalded ape that's lit on fire time after time.

Tis true...turbo engine enjoys the cooler weather.

Not looking forward to the Florida summer...Oh wait...it's already here!

It was the case with the E9X. They were delivered with a special breakin Software which had less torque than the "normal" tune. Full torque is delivered after breakin.
