Dealership Dented My Bumper!!!

Had my car serviced today and when I came back the service manager said he had some good news and bad news.

The good: He was able to take out the almost imperceptible dent in my door

The bad: The valet hit something with the front bumper while putting the car into the car wash!!!!

Damage isn't horrible but when you love your car (like we all do) its pretty painful to see your car not perfect. The real kicker is that when I dropped the car off two of the service managers were commenting on how much they liked the mineral white color for the car. My response was " I agree I love it, just terrified that if I ever need the car painted, mineral white is a difficult color to match". I guess I jinxed myself. Even the service manager said I cant believe we were just talking about this earlier.

Luckily the dealership was very apologetic and are going to buy me a new bumper and paint it instead of just fixing it. Hopefully they can match it well to the rest of the car.

Was thinking of trying to convince them to get me a euro bumper with no reflectors holes. Anyone know the part numbers or have any experience with getting a dealership to do this?

Sorry for the long post but needed to vent a bit.

Sux big time.. Hate dealership mechanics.. Most are so careless and clueless at the same time.
Gonna put it out there though, color match will never be perfect. in the bright daylight, you'll be able to tell the difference, esp paints w high pearl effects like mineral white. Ive been there before..

Reading comprehension>you. A valet dented the car, not a mechanic.

OP - mental note to self: never let the dealership wash your car.

Sorry to hear about your ding, hopefully it is repaired to your satisfaction. Good luck- I say get the Euro Bumper too! Give a euro dealership an email or call to see if they will provide the part #. FYI, I tried to contact a service center in Austria weeks ago and have heard jack squat in return - it may be hit or miss.

+1, if you truly love your car, don't let the dealership wash it.

I was going to mention this... but see we are on the same page.

Unless your dealership is one of the few that does the hand washing.

+1 to the washing. Leave a sign on the dash saying DO NOT WASH.

Typically works and prevents unnecessary possibility of harm for the car.

Sorry to hear

had something similar happen to me with my Evo. It was run into by a pickup truck in a parking lot. repair was about $7000. I went down to pick it up a month later (late on the work) and the valet, in front of my eyes, runs the car into the wall...

Not all mechanics are careless and clueless. Yes you will have a few bad eggs. That goes with everything though. Politicians, doctors etc. Not everyone is perfect.

Do you know what it takes to work on a BMW and diagnose and fix it properly? Probably not. You do not just hook a computer up and it tells you what is wrong if thats what you are thinking. You need a have a brain and skill to work on these cars. I am a BMW tech and take pride and care on every car I work on. Be it an E46 with 200k on it or a $100k+ car.
That's awesome to hear. Luckily all my BMW mechanics have been like you as well. Kudos.

+1 to having a service dept that was honest. I bought a new Mercedes sprinter passenger van for my company last sept. First time (of many) in for service and after getting it back I stopped at a gas station, when walking by the front of the van I noticed a huge crease across my hood. Drove back to the dealership and they at first tried to say it was probably already there. Which it absolutely was not. Whoever did it knew damn well they did it but said nothing. After some lengthy discussion they did finally replace the hood but it was the principle of it.

Please show pics after the paint , I had mineral white on my 2013 m3 and went to the best guy I knew , while most didn't notice the paint , I did and it drove me nuts . Mineral white is nearly impossible to match.

Good recommendations on not letting them wash the car. To be honest I never even thought that could be a problem. They are looking into ordering the euro bumper for me. I'll let you guys know what happens. I'll also let u know what happens with the pain match on MW.
