Brake Dust Glaore!
I tried doing a search but it didn't yield much helpful information. It might be user error, but in any case, starting a thread on this.
I washed my car one week ago and there's already a nice layer of brake dust on it. Granted, we took a short road trip of about 150 miles this past weekend, but seriously?? I spent a good 20+ minutes scrubbing the wheels with my newly purchased wheel woolies so I was hoping it would stay clean longer than a week. Any suggestions on how to keep them cleaner longer? I don't have ceramic brakes, which I heard creates a lot of brake dust. I am considering ceramic coating the car in the near future. Will ceramic coating the wheels help? Any advice is much appreciated. |

Welcome to ///M brakes. They’re dusty as hell. I ceramic coated my wheels in the hope that they would stay cleaner longer, but I don’t see much difference. I scrub my wheels with wheel woolies every weekend when I wash my car, but the wheels don’t stay clean for long. It’s the nature of the beast, I’m afraid.
You can buy after market brake pads that produce less dust. There are a number of posts about that if you search for brake pads.

![]() I was using the forum search function and it didn't work well. Tried Google and found several bimmerpost threads on this topic. In one thread, someone mentioned Power Stop street ceramic pads and not having any brake dust issues after installing them. I might have to look into them. Anyone here have long term experience with Power Stop street ceramic pads? |

I have them on my car. They are super low brake dust pads. It solved the problem for me. You do give up some braking bite vs the oem pads though. Fine on the street but not on a track. The power stop pads were under 100 for all four and I installed them myself. It's really easy to swap.

You can try powerstop z23 ceramic brake pad. It's a huge difference for me, and I see no dust on my wheels for weeks.

Powerstop is the brand I keep hearing if you want to remove most of the dust. You can buy them from Rock Auto, and some on Amazon (I couldn't find the front's for the F80 on amazon, but they had the rears)

That is normal sadly. Even with Brembo GT there are brake dust.
However, if you are seeing some brownish thing after a wash that is actually the rust from the rotors. THEN it is brake dust. This drives me nuts. About the only thing that is stopping me from CCB is the loud AF squeal when you brake hehe. |

I have mine coated. I do get dust after a short drive. It wont help with stopping the dust stick to the wheels. What the coating actually helps on wheels is when I need to wash it. All I have to do is get a water hose, put on spray setting (if I am lazy and not using a pressure washer), spray on and I would say the dust comes off about good 80%. |
