M4 GTS in Sport Auto Supertest Nur 19 Aug (now we can guess laptime)
Ok, guys lets guess the M4 GTS laptime. BMW factory driver did 7.27.88.
What will Christian G from sport auto do in GTS when he drive the same lap? He is a fast driver, he was One of 3 drivers wining this 24H in manthey Porsche gt4 clubsport. Class winner, not bad. Next to consider is that the track is faster now then it was when BMW drive GTS, not much but still faster( due to new constuction of flugplatz) So lets guess time then... In aug whe know the real time! |

Do you mean the 7:27.88? The weather was good. The track was not closed off, and Jorg only had 1 lap to do this carrying 40kilos of test equip in trunk. No tweaking of aero or suspension. They just set to the preset track settings and went for it. Cold tires for first few corners. I know Christian will better the time. GT3 RS 4.0 is going down

In general from the past when Horst von Sarma did the laps he was always slower then the factory driver. As I recal in the Porsche carrera GT he was only a few seconds slower. (Ca. 3 sec, dont remember)
I guess Christian G is overal a faster driver than Horst. My guess is Christian will be 2-3 seconds slower than factory driver. Time will tell |

It has to be pointed out that, IIRC, the "street" setting has been tuned and optimized on the 'ring, hence it did not need any additional "dialing".

ok. You are aware of the amount of possible setting combinations with Height, H & L speed comp and rebound then.

Jörg Weidinger (BMW) did a very good 7:28, although car was equipped with heavy measurement computers. I expect Gebhardt (SportAuto) to do a 7:36. I don't think he can meet Weidinger's time.

I also agree that one could fine tune the settings further to ones specific liking, but without a full complement of data recordings, it could become a seriouly tedious and lengthy task.

The e-version is out, sorry to disappoint, the time is..........7:37. Pyr4t was the closest!
I am not surprised actually, factory drivers have countless of laps on the car and also can tinker with the car to get best time (despite whatever they claim), SA doesn't. I have never seen magazine tests (whether with race car drivers or not) beat a factory time. Last edited by Phatcat; 08-18-2016 at 01:14 PM.. |

They do say that the 30degC weather probably hurt the lap time. The 5 liter water tank for the water injection got almost emptied in just 2 laps . Anyhow, 15 seconds is in the same improvement ballpark as the E92 GTS had over the base E92. M3 8:05 -> M3 GTS 7:49 (-16 seconds) M4 7:52 -> M4 GTS 7:37 (-15 seconds) My take away though is that the Carrera S is mightily impressive considering it is on regular street tires
