windshield repair
hi guys, my GF got hit by something on the highway and now there's a chip smaller than a quarter inch in the bottom left hand side (if you're sitting inside). what's a new windshield run on an E90? should i take to stealership or body shop? will they put an OEM windshield or some aftermarket crap?
thanks! |

Easily over $500.00.
Consider just getting it repaired with resin.

You got lucky. I've seen everything from $500 (rare) to $800. These are all dealer prices BTW. I'm not sure what you get and what you pay for a full windshield at places like safelite.

Ah, but then why have I seen -- on these very forums -- BMW dealership prices around $800? Extra labor?

Okay, I just did a search.
Looks like many (most?) dealerships charge around $500, but in California the dealerships like charging $800-$1100... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...dshield+repair

My E90 picked up a rock chip that turned into a 5" crack two days after I got the car a few weeks ago. The center was too close to the edge to repair the usual way (couldn't get suction cup on it). The guy put in crack filler and so far it hasn't spread.
But I got a quote just in case. Safelite (Houston) quoted me $399 for aftermarket glass or just under $500 for OEM glass. They say there is no difference between OEM and aftermarket, but I wonder. |

If you're thinking about replacing anyway you might as well try the repair kit first...it forces resin into the crack which stops it from spreading and makes it far less noticable.
I've used it a few times on two cars and the cracks became totally invisible. Chips it does a real good job as well.

This was a quote for a repair that included some paint work.

I believe there was a thread on aftermarket windsheild disrupting the auto sensing wipers?
