E90 6sp Auto shifting points

I just received my E90 about 500 miles ago and have been noticing the auto trans shifting rather quickly from first to second. This is my first BMW and I am wondering if this is normal for the 6sp auto.

Mine shifts quickly from 1st to 2nd also. After you get it broke-in, you can flip it into Sport mode and it will extend 1st until a higher RPM, or you can really have fun and shift "manually" and keep it in 1st until 5 or 6 k. Either way, from what I've read and experienced- it's completely normal.

I always thought the shift ratios changed depending how far you push the acelleration pedal? I notice in D mode, sometimes it might go to 5000rpm if I press hard. this is in my older 3 series though, not sure baout the e90.

Can anyone varify/test this?

Yes, it is, in D mode, especially if you are gentle to average on the throttle. The D mode is set up for maximum economy and the shift points come up fairly quickly. In fact at a little over 70km/h, the auto shifts ever so smoothly into 6th gear.

You can overcome the quick shift in D mode by gradually pressing the pedal as you start off from a standstill. I find the change nice and smooth at a reasonable pace.

As you have low mileage, you will find the car settles down a little and at the same time, you grow accostomed to its characteristics.

Now if you are set in DS mode, unless you are really gentle on the pedal, the car will hold onto each gear for longer and propell you forward really quickly.

Enjoy your car.
