BMW is making me consider a C63 AMG
I'm on my 5th BMW, including 2 M4's and have done 4 EDs. I've become good friends with my sales guy over the years and cars. Overall, I love the brand (at least what the brand was when I got my first BMW), cars and certainly the ED experience. My M4 lease is up in August. I never thought I'd leave BMW, however, the new mongo grilles on the 4 (hopefully they are less hideous in person) along with discontinuation of the ED program have gotten me looking around. The C63 AMG seems like a great alternative and so far they still offer ED and still a 7% discount. I know some C63s are made in Alabama (they are moving elsewhere I read?) and some in Germany so I think you can do ED on them? (yes, this post is slightly fishing for info if anyone has MB smarts)
Unfortunately MB is moving from a V8 that we all miss on the M's to a hybrid 4 cylinder that should put out over 500hp, yet not sound anywhere near as cool. I was admittedly a bit embarrassed in my M4 when a kid asked me to rev it in a parking lot one day. Sorry kid, that's all the noise my car will make. Love the car and the better gas mileage, but that V8 sure sounded cool. I looked at Audi, but their grilles are huge too and the S5 just seems rather boxy in appearance. Porsche get expensive really quickly with just adding a few things. If I can do a 7% discount ED the C63 will be cheaper than my M and I get the ED experience I love to boot! Anyone else looking at the C63's?

If you lease, be prepared. MB's don't lease like BMW's. BMW financial subsidizes the leases hence lower money factors and higher residuals. My wife had to have the GLE43 AMG SUV instead of an X5 with the V8 in 2018 and it cost me like $300 a month more.
If you're buying it then disregard. |

My parents have a C8 on order. Was scheduled for July delivery, but I'm not sure now given corona delays. It's a crazy sexy car, but definitely an over the top in your face sports car whereas the M4 and C63 can go a little more under the radar in that respect. Also not sure how it will be as a daily driver. As much as I like the conspicuousness of my Yas M4 I would feel a little too conspicuous driving into work in the C8. I am looking forward to my parents getting theirs though.

I've been hearing about them putting a four-banger in the next C63S----here's to praying it's fake news. Current gen C63S are sweet.

it will absolutely destroy the make. Cause think about it, an M4 ZCP is better than a C63S on the track in every measurable way, yet everyone I know that has a C63S has it for one reason and one reason only: the massive V8 & the sound it makes. I think it would be disastrous on MBs part to do that, irrespective of the performance output. As that's their biggest competitive edge.

Porsche 911 sales fell 10% year on year but 718 cratered 40% over the same time period. My sense is that 4 cyl and lack of flat 6 sound just was too much of a struggle for people to accept Edit: Oh gosh OP. “V6 m4” you sure you have an m4..... |

I am definetely looking at a 2018 C63. It was the last "loud" C63 before they nerfed the noise.

My gripe with any AMG really is that they all sound the same. The same breathy, crackly, *passive* engine noise that I don't find particularly pleasing. At all.
I'm curious to see how the C63S values hold up if it is in fact the last of that whored out V8.

Right. We still marvel every time we step into the garage, but be that as it may, my personal opinion is that while the M4 is a better track rat, the C63 is a better street car. One of our sons has a 2013 six-speed M3, and the steering is definitely better on the Benz. It's also a bit more comfy overall, with slightly less aggressive seating. It also has the that torque-everywhere feel about it, and of course the exhaust note that's to die for. The current M4 has the torque, but lacks the sound track - and I still like the C63 steering feel compared to the current M. Of course, if you're bound and determined to row-your-own, the Bimmer is the only way to go. If it matters to you though, today's high-performance automatics are definitely faster in a race, and like all automatics, are way faster in everyday street driving. The reason automatics are way quicker in everyday driving is that, with a stick, when you get close to the shift point(s), you begin tapering off on the gas, and when you push in the clutch, you wait until the revs drop to the approximate correct rev point, then gently re-engage the clutch and gently add more throttle so as to resume your target acceleration. Meanwhile, your evil twin in the auto just keeps constant throttle while the cone clutches plus either torque converter or wet clutch soften the blow, so to speak, at each shift. You do all this to maintain smoothness - and if you don't, your passengers will each nod forward and then back at each shift. If they're friends, they will then ride you unmercifully, which is what friends are for. So you try to be smooth. Result? Automan just keeps motoring away. I really don't like this, but it's the way of the current automotive world. Bruce PS - Now you know why granny in the Buick in the next lane just motored away from you coming off a light. |

My likes and dislikes for my previous C63S Edition 1:
Likes: 1. Fast over 500 hp/tq from crank. 2. Not as many compared to F80/F82 on the road in my area 3. Alcantara trim, especially on the steering wheel 4. Interior looked classier (subjective) 5. Front sports seat (which can also be optioned with other models) 6. V8 turbo sound 7. Less attention as many people cannot tell the difference between a C300, C43 or C63 sedan outside the car/forum world. Dislikes: 1. Climate control and infotainment buttons taking up more space than required (again subjective) 2. I prefer shifter in center console vs as a lever by steering wheel. 3. Exhaust tips are connected to rear bumper and not exhaust (could be plus or minus depending on how you think about it) 4. Very expensive to mod compared to F80/F82. Price would not have been a problem if I wasn't a previous M2 and M3 owner and spoiled with the level of dedicated after market products dedicated to ///M. 5. Body panel gap central. I am very particular and spent a good amount of money fixing gaps both in the front and rear of the car. If you go to mercedes forum, many owners have same issues and either live with it or cough up the money to fix. 6. Harsh ride. Much harsher than my current F82 and prior F87 and F80. 7. Infotainment system - not as intuitive as BMW. I like having physical buttons to switch radio stations or other options. Bonus dislikes: for anyone who wants to get downpipes, you have to drop the motor or cut and weld. Tunes start @ $1500. Not end of the world, but to me a little excessive. Items such as rotors/pads and other wear/tear items are similar priced so I was not concerned with cost of ownership. Extra bonus: It was difficult to find a dealership that was confident with the trade as not many people turn in C63S. |

-C63 better daily (v8, better interior)
-M3 better sports car. (lighter, better handling, choice of DCT or Manual which are both superior to an automatic). If you really want a V8 i'd skip the turbo one in the newer c63s... go for the big NA 6.2 L if you want a collector car. The older C63 black series is a car i'd love to own one day. they still trade for 70-80k

C63 is 3900lb. Whoa.
My $0.02 is to go with used w212 e63, cut resonators and benchflash to get to 700hp, and you have awd to put the power down. At least this car has the suv cargo space and awd to compensate for the suv caliber weight A friend went this route (with a wagon!) and was really happy with the drive. Electronics reliability was another story, and caused him to sell after ~2yrs |
