Any regrets not doing ED?

I am a bit torn at the moment as I had ordered an M3 for US delivery, but meanwhile I also decided to take a trip to Europe for 2-3 weeks, and I just wish so badly I had gone with ED - this is my first BMW and picking her up at the Welt would have been very special for me.

The problem is the car is already in the US (stuck in port at the moment), but the whole ED debacle has been on my mind the last few days.

Although I wouldn't think the dealership would have a hard time selling the car, I am still a bit embarrassed to bring this up with my CA to see if we could possibly order one for ED delivery.

Any advice on how to get over the "oh why couldn't I just go with ED" thought?

Although I can only see myself getting my cars via ED (my 4th coming up in 40 days), I think that if my car was already here and I was getting it for a good price given that I wouldn't be getting the ED discounts I could probably get over it. And in your case, I don't think I could manage to wait another several month when know I can have my new car NOW.

Unfortunately the car was delayed a little so I wouldn't be able to pick it up until after I come back from Europe which would be in another month or so. I did get a price I was happy with (3k off of MSRP + base MF), however at this point I am willing to take a little bit of a hit to get what I want - it's my fault for changing my mind so I am willing to pay for it.

I am going to call the CA tomorrow to see if we can work something out - maybe I can provide some incentive on top of the 3k off for someone on this forum to buy it

I sincerely doubt you will be able to get an ED date this close to when you will be there. Normally you need to start the order at least 2 months out from your desired pickup date. That also assumes your dealer has an allocation for a 2017 that they will give you.

Thanks! 40 days til ED, but ideally 101 days in October until I get to actually have the car at PCD/M school. Not that I'm counting or have countdown widgets on my phone's home screen or anything.

I wouldn't mind delaying my trip by about a month if necessary, but like you said it all depends on whether they are willing to work with me given that I have decided to change my mind at the last minute and I would not blame them. I just figured I would ask tomorrow since asking doesn't hurt. I got pretty lucky with the current build, the car went into production 3 days after I gave them the green light.

Hehe, I know the feeling ... I have been tracking the build, stalking the ship the car was on, and anxiously awaiting her arrival at the dealer as well

OP, trust me I kind of went thru the same !!

My story goes back to March when I initially starting talking to my dealership for my potential build. I have a very good relationship with them as I had bought my prior M3 thru them as well. They got an allocation for me in March for an April build, but we had to give up on that as there were issues (recall) with my trade and in my mind I sort of wanted to wait for MY17.

Starting June, we got active again and they were again able to get me an allocation for a week 28 (july) build. My build some how went into 150 a little earlier than what I had expected and the car started production 6/20 and is supposed to finish production July,8.

I thought about doing ED earlier but than gave up on the idea as we have 2 little ones, both are in the age requiring car seats. ED seemed a little over whelming at least initially with the kids. How ever the more I read about it the more I feel we should have gone for it.

I thought about bringing it up with my dealership but I kind of feel guilty though, they have been super nice and I am already getting stellar service and an excellent price. I am friends with the owner and don't want to put them in an uncomfortable position plus the additional 2 to 3 months wait for an ED bums me out..So for now I am sort of leaning towards PCD and hoping to do ED next time around....

Yeah I feel very crappy asking as well, although I would be giving up my deposit which may or may no make it right in their eyes. Regardless the latest I can push my trip to is the first or second week of August, and I just don't know that they would be able to deliver that quickly anyway.

I suppose I could always trade it in next year and plan better then

Good luck with whatever you decide, and get some comfortable seats for the little ones !

Hello,

I can honestly say that I can't wait to turn in my lease to lease the exact same car (maybe a few options less) just to do the ED... I don't know what kind of response you want from the community here but I feel like many will stand behind me and say totally do the ED even if it costs a bit more. I would do it even if I didn't get a discount/might even pay more.

I think most people struggle to do ED because of time restrictions but in your case, sounds like you have some days off from work.

Also, afaik, I believe you can arrange it in a short time period. it was incredibly easy for me to change dates multiple times, the hardest part really is getting an allocation, scheduling doesn't really seem like a problem (except in the middle of summer because the BMW factory closes down for a week or two)

I say totally go for it and ask for another order!!!

PS- If you want to be a huge dick, you can probably just walk away+ get back your deposit/ order from another store. I don't think the deposit is actually legally binding, it's just a representation of good faith to the dealership.

Give it a shot,, if you are so convinced on ED that you are considering trading in next year for the ED experience than I suggest you push hard to get it changed / dropping the order to get a new allocation for ED now versus buying a car now and trading it again next year.

I do know ED requires a lot of lead time, there are folks here that are already in status 150 with ED dates of September.

I just had my first European delivery last month after driving BMWs since 1999. It is a fantastic experience, just fantastic. That said, take a deep breath and decide what YOU want to do. You are under no obligation to take the car you ordered, but you WILL have it sooner...much sooner. You will have to delay your Euro vacation to obtain an ED date. I'm not sure by how much, but I started negotiations in mid February for my early June ED pickup. Of course, since you have a relationship with your CA this may not be as much of an issue. Then there is the WAIT (currently that is what I'm doing, thank god for my other BMWs)...you are in Florida so only 6-8 weeks for you (vs. 10+ weeks for those of us on the west coast).

GL with your decision!

Thank you everyone for your suggestions!

I will talk to my CA tomorrow to see if we can work something out. I certainly don't want to be a jerk about it, another dealership had actually offered me a much better deal when I was building the current car, but I decided to pay a little more and go with the local dealership because I would like to build a relationship with them

My work/ travel dates are flexible, but I have a family event mid August which means an ED date of about 5-6 weeks from now at the latest.

I should know something by tomorrow, hopefully my CA won't get mad at me .

5-6 weeks is the minimum timeframe. Your dealership would likely need to have an allocation in hand.

It would also be another 6-10 weeks wait for the car to return after your trip.

ED is an absolutely must. My first BMW purchased was a 2011 e90 M3 and I did ED on it. Now I have a production number to do an ED in October on a 2017 M2. Waiting for confirmation on the ED dates I selected.

It's an awesome experience and I cannot buy a new BMW without doing a European Delivery.

This. I'm a value shopper/ Sortve cheap at heart and would rather buy pre owned but BMW ED makes me never want to buy a car another way again! It's honestly pretty sad and boring once the car comes state side... this car always wants to get into the "lose your license" territory and I'm generally not comfortable with that. anyhow I hope it all works out

Everything is relative for me when it comes down to me not doing ED.

I didn't custom order a individual Dakar yellow/comp/exec/dct. I didn't even order my dealer located my exact built spec (stripper m3 with dct/leather/19s) from another dealer. That was because during that time the car I was driving had started breaking down. Therefore I obviously didn't do an ED but the discount is totally worth it.

All in all I saved on all the unnecessary fluff and I still got my good deal on my time. But I will consider all of those things I didn't do next time.

Holy crap dude, you're like the either nicest or shyest BMW buyer ever. I would call the CA and tell him I've decided to cancel my order and please refund my deposit immediately, I've decided to go another direction. Then I'd shop around the country for the best ED deal and do ED.

Why the hell should you give a shit about your CA? He or she is probably very nice but it's not like you owe them anything and you're the customer - they should fight for your business - why are you tripping all over yourself to put money in their pocket?

Cancel immediately and PM GOLFFRR then get your ass to Europe and pick up your Bimmer in style!

life is short, you ain't got time to dick around - you gotta sack up on this!
