The First 90 days: Observations on Elations
I took delivery of a custom built 2015 F82, 6MT with every option except Driver Assistance PLUS and CCB. We all know the performance numbers so this post is intended for those who are in the market and/or on the fence about which options.
These are my observations, frustrations, and recommendations within the first 90 days of ownership. Hopefully this will guide you to the right F8x of your dreams: Pro's: +Deletion of the annoying seatbelt butlers that come standard on F32's. +Large storage compartment below headlight switch if you forgo Driver Assistance PLUS package. +Full leather dashboard +Ducktail trunk lid Con's: -Extended Full Merino leather only covers top half of door panels. -Passenger mirror glass dips down too far when shifting into reverse. Wish list (currently not available on F8x): 1. Cooled/ventilated seats 2. Front facing camera (ala 7-series and X5) to prevent curbing front bumper 3. LED turn indicators on rear tail lights Even though I typically don't like the color yellow in general I chose Austin Yellow because it looked instantly recognizable as an M-car. The color is not as garish as I expected and I've received a lot positive feedback. There are hues of gold or green in certain light. Black Full Merino leather interior balances it out. I've owned BMW's for years but this vehicle exceeds my expectations in terms of the joy it brings me every morning when I fire it up. It's equipped with everything that I've ever wanted in a BMW and really is the every day track car that I take to the office. Truly ///M4GICAL

Love the diffuser and black tips!
How is the F8x compared to the F3x you had? I currently have a F30 328 and will be either getting a 435 GC or M3 next year (I need 4 doors). I have really liked the 328, especially with the tune I have; it pulls hard for a DD and has sporty enough handling for my needs. I am wanting to step it up next time, and am just not sure if I "need" the M over the 35

If it's within your means--go for the full M-car. It's a sublime experience. Wider fenders, trunk lid, hood, CF roof, CF driveshaft, cross drilled rotors, wheels in addition to the drivetrain are all unique to F8x models. The few components shared are glass and doors, headlights/tail lights. It's work the extra $$$

Now being the responsible adult that I am if you are just looking for a faster DD with more power the 35 will do more than enough to satisfy that. It is also pretty comfortable and relatively practical to use. If you are a sensible adult you should get the 35. The "M" is not a "need" purchase, there is nothing rational about spending $25k extra for a DD. The "M" is an emotional purchase. With that said I am waiting for my ED on my 2016 F80. Good luck with your decision. |

I picked up the 2x2 weave CF diffuser for $549.00 from RW Carbon out of SoCal. Quality is superior and fitment is 90%. Took 20 minutes to install. Everywhere else is selling for over $1000.00.

you can get the car coded so that the mirror doesn't dip as much. I got mine to dip just a little bit. it dips way too far down the way the car comes! it's a useless feature the way the made it. so I'd look into that.

Side note: I have been told that the "out" motion is more important than the "in" (that's what she said?), so will have to try that too |

The trunk feature I rarely used anyway so it wasn't much of a concession. BMW states to "use a kicking motion" versus a swiping motion to pop the trunk. Form over function.
