I've gone it a few times with it on map0. If you're worried just remove. Its pretty fast install / removal.

I recently took my M4 in for 1200 mile service with the JB4 installed.

The only thing I did before taking it in was set it to Map 0.

No one said a word.

I also have exhaust and intake mods, and they didn't ask about any of that either.

I had a service manager tell me that I shouldn't worry about tracking the car, but would definitely recommend against a tune because "...if the warranty lady found out that wouldn't be good. " for what it's worth.

As long as you accept the fact that your warranty is toast if your tune causes a problem, you can tell the "warranty lady" to f#%$ off. Kind of liberating to just accept that and not hide a damn thing.

I'll be bringing my F82 in for 7000 mile service soon with catless DPs & JB4 and not hiding it. Just do the scheduled service and let me go ahead and enjoy my ride... my way. Life's too short.

You should ask your service advisor what he thinks about mods. Sometimes its easier to ask then to worry about taking it off etc..
Regardless of what anyone on any forum says, each dealership makes their own decision on mods, warranty etc.
Don't just take someone's advice on this forum, they may have it better at their dealership then someone else.
Think about it..

If you already know that dealerships are not fond of piggybacks, why risk it? Simply removing it is the safe bet.

Every case is different. There are known visits of TSE folks (employed by BMWNA) now setting up inside dealerships looking specifically for aftermarket modifications on warranty claims and random inspections. Just because someone has gotten away with it doesn't mean that the next guy will.

Modding always comes with an element of risk. Keep in good contact with your SA.

Isn't that worse though? If you change the oil yourself, BMW has no record of this and could really void your warranty since according to them, the scheduled maintenance was not done...

Vehicle is not required to have service at the dealership only. Keeping receipts (with dates) from an independent shop would most times be equivalent to having service performed.

Your correct. You need some type of documentation from the dealership or a reputable independent shop.
I've been involved with a local BMW dealership where they were requesting a clients service records for a engine warranty on a F10 M5.
We only use factory service parts, so there was no issue and the clients engine got replaced under warranty.

Even if the tune doesn't cause a failure, it's very possible that they easily blame it if they see it and leave you a big headache to fight it. I had a CA dealer blew up some fuses while replacing my motor, then denied warranty work on power steering that went out because they saw posi-taps on FEM module which was for my headlight retrofit.. Because of that, I would always take it off. If something breaks, I would take it off before the car goes into the dealership. But here the problem is, it seems that JB4 is not easy to take off unless you are skilled.

Any person can install or remove the JB4 without any problem. An experienced mechanic can remove it in less than 30 minutes. If you this is your first time handling a JB4 it can take up to an hour and a half. No need for any skills.

My concern is that for a chance of a break down on the road or a track, one would have to carry the extra tools to remove it..and it's a hassle doing it while waiting for a flatbed, having to wait the car cools down and all the things. I will stop complaining about this, since it's BMW's fault hiding connectors like that; and just get stage 1 someday.
