Wow, can't believe with all of the deliveries this hasn't been laid to rest. It is either a mode one can place the car in purposefully and clearly with a noticeable effect or it is made up BS.

Would be neat if it were a real option, but I would bet most ppl here that get an F8x will either try 1-2x or not at all.

Lets just hope it's not a situation where the LC only works 50% of the time; and the other half it results in a smokey burnout.

This feature is very clearly mentioned on the build page at BMW USA. Is the debate over actual implementation? To me it just seems like a the LC allows for a little spin before upshift when fully nailed.

Good find! Now we just need someone with a broken-in car to attempt this using the (somewhat esoteric) procedure described earlier in this thread.

Unfortunately a failure to experience anything subjectively resembling a smokey burnout won't be enough to confirm no such feature exists. However in the event that one can positively identify there is something different from normal LC going on there, that would give us something for others to try to duplicate.

"Smokey Burnout Feature?"

Did they actually put this feature in the f8x ?? If they did, how to enable ?!

Please, can we just bury this nonsense. It makes a joke of a great car and I'll be happy if I never hear this function mentioned again

Do it old-fashioned style. Stand still => DSC off => Floor it.

Maybe on a greasy spot? Those rear tires are pretty wide, and this car's pretty heavy.

I just played with launch control for the first time and the rear tires were lit up the entire time until I got off the gas. More show than go. No indication that I had enabled smokey burnout mode, but I did stab the throttle to get the checkered flag on the dash.

You guys kidding? Turn off Traction Control and put it in sport plus. Shift into 1st gear. Dump the clutch from 2k RPMS and your tires will spin. Dump them from 3 and they will spin all the way up to whatever RPM you can dream of as the car squirms. No oil slicks, no water, just dry pavement and too much power for modern mechanics to handle as intended. Try it from 2K on a NICE WIDE ROAD where you have a shoulder and there is no traffic around. Laugh, enjoy, then try it from 3.

Burnouts in this car are so easy to do I don't know why it even merits discussion.

I think it's also about how not to do them. If you want to do launch control it would be nice to have confidence you didn't enable smokey burnout instead.

Exactly. My experience so far:

DSC off + throttle = smoke
Launch control checkered flag via stabbing accelerator = smoke
Launch control checkered flag via slowly pressing accelerator = smoke
MDM mode + throttle = decent launch

Wish I knew how to get launch control to actually work. So far only the Michelin Man is happy with my progress.

it seems if you hit the accelerator fast you enable the "smokey burnout LC" and not the actual one. pressing the accelator gentle until LC is enabled should be a decent start ...

I have not achieved a decent start without smoke so far just saying ..
