Excited about an M3/4 but what else are you eyeing?
I thought it would be fun to get an idea of what you will be cross shopping. What is competing for your next car?
For instance, I'm up for something in one year. I'm giving some serious thought to some disparate vehicles. The M4 for sure. Not really wanting an M3 but await the way it turns out. Also thinking about a Porsche Cayman S and the new BMW X5 (V8 version) and the new Range Rover Sport. The latter is a completely new model and looks interesting. Anyone else sort of thinking a bit outside the box the next go around? |

I am strongly considering going with a roadster next time. So Boxster S, SLK55, C7 Corvette, are possible. Maybe even next Z4. Alfa 4C has my attention now too. Or maybe Ferrari California... kidding
If I decide I still need four seats, M2 is a strong contender. Or even M235i. And the upcoming Boss 350 Mustang has the potential to be special too. Oh and for sure, I will eye up the W205 "C63" convertible if they build one. |

I would be interested in rs3 sedan if they ever release that.
Otherwise, cla45 amg also grabbed my attention a bit. If bmw has both m3 and m2 gc available, I would most likely get m2 gc. However, since m2 is still few years away, I will enjoy new m3 for next few years |

Porsche 991 if I can somehow fit the kids and Porsche Macan if it's handling is tight enough. I attended the BMW Ultimate drive event today and I must say that I'm now more concerned about the F8X. even if I owned and liked both the N54 and N55 I realized that I'm now so used to the S65's throttle response and sound that the N55 in the 640 GC felt very unresponsive with large turbolag even if it has pretty good power once the lag has passed. I also drove the Panamera ( again ) which felt familiar since we own a 2013 Cayenne. For me that's it, M3 for sure if it feels like an upgrade otherwise a Porsche, nothing else that can transport 4 really catches my attention currently. The Ghibli feels like too much of a reliability gamble and the interior isn't my style.

M4 GC, M3, M4 are 1,2,3 at this point.
Maserati Ghibli believe it or not is my 4th option right now, but once I can see one in person, that may change (for better or worse). '15/'16 GTR if major redo is done will also be a consideration. However, a new GTR HAS to have more room in the rear seat than the current one. My kids used to fight over who had to ride in the back. |

I think the impressive redesign of the C7 and the interest of potential M3/4 buyers will help keep the price down some on the M3/4. You don't want that price gap to get too ugly because the C7 has really corrected some of the faults of the C6 like interior quality.

I have a '11 GT3 that I am currently in negotiation to sell. I love the car. I've always wanted a kick ass 911. But in reality the GT3 sacrifices daily drivability. Commuting is a waste of it's abilities. But when it's in its element there's not another car I'd want to be in. The problem is that scenario is few and far between.
This is why I'm looking at the M4 as my potential next car. The M3 has always been known as being versatile but still very capable. The M4 should be the same in that regard. Maybe not as capable as the GT3 but being motorcycle track day instructor I'll never feel the need to take the GT3 to the track anyway. The other car is the current or next RS5. quattro is very useful in the pac nw. The current RS5 maybe less so as I want some torque. Having boost of some sort is a big plus as well.

If the rumours of big weight loss occurs then I would certainly consider an M3/M4.
If not I'll be looking at a used GT3 in a couple years. For now I am gonna sit and wait for 2 years at least and see what falls out of the new car. |
