X5 key retrofit

I've searched the forum on how to do this but came up with an old thread with no update.

I understand that BMW won't give a key without a vin but as it happens I have an m sport x5 as well so I can possibly obtain a new key. Now the question is can it be programmed to work with the m4?

I doubt the dealer will do this lol. I'm sure I can purchase the key but programming it might be a whole another issue.

ok here is how it works. I was a little off sorry.

When you order a key you must present your license and your vin (have to match obv) you DO NOT need to have the vehicle present. Then the dealer orders the key from BMW which comes ALREADY programmed to that specific vehicle. which then is handed to the customer. You can not buy a key that is un programmed.

Now as far as making it work on other cars. The keys are somehow (I dont know how) unable to be re programmed to any other vehicle once its cut form BMW.

hope that helps
