Wanted to share and see what everyones thoughts are on this new fix provided by Vargas
http://performance.vargasturbo.com/bmw-products/ It is called a spline lock Here is some additional info in regards to it damaging stock parts when "gripping" The idea that it slips then grips -like a limited slip differential or the like- is incorrect. It doesn't slip. If it slips, you have already lost correct time. To get it to slip with the spline lock and the CBC you'll break things first. We broke our test stand trying to get it to let go. It's a great solution, easy to install and very robust.

You know what's crazy, I was thinking about something like this. I'm glad someone came up with a working solution that didn't require any drilling of the crank.
Looks like a great product! |

coldsteelrain I believe Labor is half that of other solutions that require drilling, so roughly half day. Again depending on experience of shop.

The last sentence of their product description :
"While this is not a full fix for all crank hub spinning issues, we have found most of our issues have stemmed from the bolt itself backing out" |

Complete solution is called "VTT Spline Lock Crank Hub Solution": "VTT is proud to offer the only complete N54, N55, S55 complete crank hub solution that does NOT require the crank to be drilled for pins. Our hub uses our proprietary "Spline Lock" technology that uses high tolerance machined splines which press into the crank, and positively lock the hub to the crank. The splines are machined in such a way that rotational forces drive the hub, and splines deeper into the crank meaning when the hub encounters a situation that would normally slip a stock hub the splined hub is driven into the crank to keep it in place (much like a splined extractor). We spent many months testing, and retesting this design, utilizing well over 10 different samples to come to our final production version. During testing, our final hub managed to break our testing rig before slipping. These have been bench tested, and real-world tested on the VTT N54 race car spinning 8K RPM, and making well over 900WHP. This technology means our hub installs the same as a stock hub, no drilling of the crank, which means MUCH less labor is involved and is reversible is ever wanting to be uninstalled leaving no holes in the crank. Couple this "Spline lock" hub with our VTT Crank Hub capture for the ULTIMATE Crank Hub solution for your BMW. VTT "Spline Lock" Crank hubs are CNC manufactured from Harndered 17-4SS for the ultimate in durability, and toughness. We suggest the Crank Hub System ONLY be installed by a qualified shop or technician. Timing tools are 100% REQUIRED if installed improperly engine damage may occur. DISCLAIMER: VTT is not responsible for any engine damage caused by improper installation, or misuse of the crank hub solution. The product comes with a 1 year unlimited mileage warranty from manufacture defects. We cannot warranty the OEM parts sold with these kits, if an issue is found we can speak with BMW about a replacement." |

Wow. Really interested in seeing someone do this in socal. If this is truly an option without having to key the crank then this would open up so many opportunities for comfortably tuning. Without a 99% reliable solution, would be pretty bold and gutsy to tune.
Not sure if anyone can answer this, but how does the spline truly work here? Is the crank splined to mate up with the new hub? Is this part truly a reversible option without leaving any damage to the stock crank? How is it installed? Also when they say the hub gets "pulled in" tighter if it is on the verge of slipping, doesn't that translate into movement of the hub itself? Def would be down to try this. I can say from experience an sch on an '18 f80 with 2k MI was a terrible experience. It was obviously covered under warranty but still nuts on a new car. Every now and then when I push the car, I fear I'll get the drivetrain malfunction chime.... |

How many hours of labor does this require? The video mentions $2K in labor cost.

I was quoted 22hours for maxpsi by my local shop. Very reputable in Arizona.
So if this is half day 8-12 hours depending on experience I assume
