Assumed a 2018 M3 Lease - Is the maintenance refresh worth it? Extended warranty?

Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice on what to do with my M3. I assumed the lease this month and I'm curious as to what you all think would be best. I'm aware of the $700 refresh fee as I was talking to a guy in the dealer about it. I've got two years left on the lease and he said the refresh would cover for 3 years and that it would cover brakes and rotors as well.

As of now I'm planning on keeping the car as I'm in love with it. Previous owner also installed downpipes and took off the catalytic converters. I've put a tune on it since the computer was putting the car in safe mode since the cats were taken off.

So Ive got about 550hp now

What do you all think and any thoughts on an extended warranty??? I'm new to acquiring a lease and new to the idea of keeping my M car longer than the lease period.

Thanks in advance

Check your iDrive for the brake condition. If you have the standard steel brakes then you've probably got over 100k miles left. They last a ridiculously long time. The CCB's on the other hand....

Also you've got a modded car, who is the extended warranty through, BMW or a 3rd party? I'd be cautious if it's BMW who will decide to cover warranty claims on a modded car.

1. Maintenance refresh for 700$

Do it. You'll need spark plugs at around 30k miles, the plug job is 700$ itself.

BUT, whoever told you brakes and rotors are included is completely wrong. Starting in '17, it is no longer included.

2. Extended warranty

Many threads about reliability of f8x platform. Probably 50-50 at this point of people getting extended warranty. I'm not getting one and I'm planning to drive mine til 100k.

I haven't done any extended warranty yet. Want to see what input I can get here to see what I do.

I agree with the poster above. Extended warranty on a modded car is a crapshoot.

This isn't ENTIRELY true.

There are two maintenance plans. '16 cars and older came with the MP maintenance plan which covered everything including the brakes. '17 onward cars came with the SH maintenance plan which did NOT include brakes or wipers.
BUT
With a new purchase of a '17 or newer car you could purchase an upgrade to the old MP plan.
AND
If you purchase/swap-a-lease/whatever a car with an SH plan you can either transfer the SH plan into your name for $100 OR transfer and upgrade it to the MP plan for $700.

So, if OP is saying the transfer is $700 I'm going to say he's getting the MP which will cover the brakes but without checking the VIN I can't say for sure. Either way, for the price the maintenance plan is a no brainer, even if he doesn't need brakes.

Haha! Your service adviser should be able to tell you but if you want to PM me the last 7 of your VIN I can take a look and let you know what you have as well.

If you have CCB's the brakes and rotors are not covered. You're essentially paying $600 for wipers. They should also offer you the basic "refresh" to get the plan in your name for $100 which covers oil/filters/plugs/brake fluid etc.

PM incoming!

Sorry to thread jack, but in my scenario I purchased a preowned '17 from a regional to me BMW dealer. I paid 700$ for 'maintenance refresh'. Looking at my purchase options, I'm seeing this:

ELIGIBLE Contract/Service Program Information (Optional programs only, CPO eligibility not provided)
Type Program Code/Desc Wholesale Price MSRP Deductible Vendor Code
Used
MP 0000000301 - SH REFRESH 36 M/36K N/A 100.00 .00 MP
MP 0000000302 - MP 36 MO/36K MLS N/A 600.00 .00 MP

This verifies what you were saying about +100 for SH refresh, and +600 for MP refresh. I'm assuming they are additive and +700 for both?

Now - The last service I had I went in to my local SA and told them I wanted wipers.. (super important in Seattle), they told me it wasn't included.

Does this mean...
1. my local SA didn't look close enough to my MP refresh?
2. the regional BMW dealer took my money and only purchased the SH refresh?

TLDR: I really want wipers. No joke. :

So there are no good options for extended warranty if the car is modded?

Discount doesn't impact residual. It will impact depreciation and hence monthly payments, but residual is calculated off MSRP.

Personally, I'd skip the maintenance payment and extended warranty and just return the car at the end of the lease and get another one.

The refresh is worth it if you drive it alot. Oil changes, spark plugs, brake fluid flush air filter and cabin filter by 30k. Total exceeds $700 at dealer rates.

With the mods you likely have blown warranty coverage for engine/tranny/diff issues.

Very interested in this... So i all have to do is ask my SA about the maintenance upgrade and it'll be $100??? News to me... If so this is great as i assumed a 2016 and have a couple of expensive services coming up. Last time i went into the dealer i was informed that my past SA had been doing the services free but that the dealer was cracking down and a bunch of people had been fired.... Hence i would have to pay for services from now on. If $100 can save me all these troubles then this is the best hidden secret ever!

This is the thread I posted about this topic.

The SH refresh will only cover the basic maintenance, the MP upgrade, which will cover brakes is an additional 600$.

All, this is great discussion, I need to transfer maintenance program on my used '16 340xi with 20k miles on it. I have heard MP refresh 700$ is negotiable. Can you please pass on a reliable contact who can assist me transfer MP under my name at a discounted cost?

Thanks so much!
