Retiring my current DD (2006 330i 6MT) once I reach 200k this week, only a couple hundred miles away! New DD will be my 328i Coupe and the M3 (just picked up last week) is my new toy.

Question for all those who drive long distances on their daily commute (noticed some 40+milers one way), do you get bored of the car at all driving it that much regularly? I'd like to upgrade to an M4 but last thing I want is to get bored of what is an amazing car, by driving it 60 miles a day on the motorway! Its one factor which is keeping me from buying/making me think I need a cheap rubbish car for the motorway commute and the M4 for Friday and weekend use.

Every day I drive two trips of 50 miles and I don’t get bored. When I get stuck in traffic I frequently take the first exit so that I can keep driving, it is so much fun to drive.

This is one of the reasons I love having a commuter car. One makes me miss the other, and I have a new appreciation for each when I get in. Plus, my i3 does much better as a commuter.

if you worry about your car and love keeping it pristine then get a beater. I see so much crap on my drive to work (potholes, 2x4's, road kill, tree branches that have fallen off a trailer, people hitting the shoulder and kicking up rocks... ) The thought of hitting something or even just getting my paint pitted up from rock chips and having to repaint a bumper scares me. the metallic f8x paints are hard to match.

I use my civic for work (40 miles each way). Once i get home I do everything else around town with my M3 like grocery shopping, getting take out, running errands, etc.

I think my $38k worth of damages from a rock has convinced me that a daily driver is worth it simply because of the poor road conditions here in Los Angeles, especially after all the rain we've had lately. Roads are torn to shit and I'm dodging potholes left and right.

I do 30+ miles each way and never get bored of it. There is still plenty of opportunities for fun passing on the highway and on side streets. If anything, I would be bored to death in a commuter car thinking why on earth and I driving this thing when I have an M3 at home?

I wish. They would have just totaled it at that point. Oil cooler, steering rack, MPE, rear diff, headlights, front bumper, the list goes on... $38k with labor.

I commuted with my '16 M3 for 2 years, 40 miles each way. I was very apprehensive about driving a silly i3 to work, but all is forgiven when I'm in the carpool passing people and using adaptive cruise. I think the G80 is coming with adaptive cruise, that's a game changer imho.

Ha touche. Yea the use of a carpool/HOV lane can certainly greatly impact a commute. My commute consists only of toll road highways which dont have a designated lane(s) for carpool and EVs/hybrids do instead I rely on my 400+hp to get me to my destination faster

I enjoy driving. I find reasons to take longer routes when I can (even though I commute 60+ miles a day). I think I'd get bored in a beater car wondering why I left the M4 at home when I could be enjoying it. To each their own.

60 miles / day. All seasons. The car is a beast.

For those doing higher mileages, have you considered run flats? Buying summer tires for my apex wheels, and the thought crossed my mind ..

Why run flats? For longer wear? If for longer wear just get Pilot Sport AS3s, they're grippy but still have long life. I run them on my vert and wagon they seem to last forever...

I don't think I'd get longer wear from them ..not getting stranded is the only up side. I know ..M cars don't use RFT ..just thinking about 60 mi/day practicality.

10 miles isn't a commute, that's a warm-up lap.
