Fair warning: I just went this route recently. Somebody remotely coded it to work on my F80 and I paid for the service. It never connects or works properly and I come to find out that I actually need to get a special Wifi antenna to plug into the back of my head unit to not have these intermittent connection issues.

I just want to inform people that it isn't just as simple as coding and getting the special code needed. Hardware may also be required.

Yes, quite true. Some cars do not have the required factory ​​​​WiFi Aerial ​​Antenna, so connection would be impaired. Although ​​​​the WiFi Aerial ​​Antenna is inexpensive, and simply plugs into back of Head Unit, so it is not difficult at all to obtain nor connect it.

You can also check VIN for feature options. That would tell if car is equipped with antenna or not. You can also mount phone close screen, but better to purchase and add antenna if needed.

Yes, you are correct. The guy I paid decoded my VIN to determine that he could code in Carplay. Only after I paid him for that service did he inform me by looking at the same VIN that I also need hardware when I reported to him I was having issues. It seemed a bit strange to not check total compatibility or make no mention of hardware requirements before the service was performed, so I came here to report back with my experience.

I'm just here to help other people be more informed before paying for coding to avoid being in my situation.

It is good to raise awareness of WiFi Aerial issue as people should know, although it actually is not normal for any Seller to determine if car has WiFi Aerial, as 1) many users have no issues using CarPlay without WiFi Aerial by mounting Phone close to head unit, and 2) for those actually needing / wanting a WiFi Aerial, they simply add one as it is cheap and easy, less than 10 minutes, to do.
