Clunk sound when braking (now with video)
Hi all, I had a different thread about a clunking I get when I brake at very low speeds but I had a chance to take the wheel off and look for it. Here's a video. Is this normal? It happens on both sides. I had my wife apply pressure to the brake with the car up and it does the clunk with or without brakes applied as long as the disk can spin. I see and feel zero movement in the pads. It doesn't clunk when the disk starts moving but rather when it comes to an abrupt stop. I can't replicate it by moving any other suspension part independently. It almost feels like lash in a 4wd or in the rear end of a rwd car. Car has 25k miles on it .

As in the wheel hub needs to be replaced? Are those known to not last long on these cars? I wouldn't expect so much play with only 25k miles on the car. Also, there doesn't seem to be any movement in the bearings. When I used to work on Vettes all the time you could grab the wheel and rock it up and down (from the top and bottom) to check for play in the hub and you could feel the slop. These feel very tight still.

You could remove the caliper from the brake rotor and try doing what you did in the video. You could remove the rotpr as well and try and spin the hub. Its clearly not your suspension. The only other thing it could be is your hub.
