At least we have forum member reviews with incredible feedback like “shifts are quick” and “lots of power”

Didn't he also opine on power to weight? It's true.. who needs Harris

I'm enough of an M nerd to remember these articles. They were out > half year ahead of the E92 release https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...-drive-review/

M3/M4 space is more active and competitive than ever. Delaying positive press is lost sales.

I think I will just get the carbon fiber shift paddles and maybe the seats from G8x, put it into my car call it a day.

On the other hand, delaying bad press will boost sales with the early suckas!

Not this week. It seems all is going to be revealed on February 1st.

Wasn't the F8x forum side far more active when the car was first announced?

This is definitely not a good look for BMW and they don't seem to realize it yet. Wonder how long they will be oblivious to it.

Ya but it was the first M3/4 with forced induction which itself generated a lot of excitement.

An aside the E9x M3 was also exciting because not only was it coming with a high revving V8 but the sedan returned to US market.

Meh I remember the turbo 6 being the “wait and see” portion of the F80 release. Don't remember to many that were excited for it back in 2014.

Would have been a near perfect car with a 500hp high revving V8 instead of the fartcan 6.

Not to play devil's advocate or anything, because I'm not really crazy about the car either, but in my opinion, the demographic being targeted isn't really in the forum scene. I think we've established by this point that at least at surface level, previous M3/4 owners don't appear to be the target market, and the forum is flooded with us in comparison to the G8x. Add the fact that it's a new generation, and being censored to all hell, at least in my opinion this is the expected outcome.

As a counter argument, I don't think it's BMW being oblivious at all. Instagram and Facebook users are probably going to eat it up/promote the hell out of it. BMW has obviously pushed their marketing to different channels, and I'm not sure they really care if the forums are dead or not.

I think forums in general are on the way out. I just bought a 2020 STI and signed up on NASIOC from my fond memories of it being THE go to resource for everything Subaru related. In comparison to Bimmerpost it is beyond dead. I have multiple posts and PMs that have seen absolutely no action in over a week. I'm not sure how much time the forum era has left in it, so I can see why BMW might be focusing its efforts elsewhere. I think we just find it especially jarring since the execution and marketing of the latest model has been so different than past generations.

Same dislike on FB as well as Instagram. You can't honestly believe only die hard M3 owners on a forum would be the only ones unhappy with the direction BMW took with these?

Not only that but YouTubers like Chris Harris and Throttle House are taking every chance to point out how ugly it is.

Ive said it before and Ill say it again. There have always been haters about the next generation M3 BUT they have never been about the way they look.

I don't know how you asserted that I came to that conclusion, when the point I was trying to make was that I'm not sure BMW cares if the G8x forum is dead when there are many newer/trendier and more effective ways to market the new M3/4 than on a car forum. In no way did I even hint at only forum members disliking the new car. But that also doesn't mean that the new M3/4 was marketed to forum members/die hard M fans as the main consumer. The urban motion sickness inducing and social media influencer green wheel drop videos are pretty damn obvious of that in my opinion.

I think what he's saying is it's not working like you are asserting it is just bc they are going the social media route. If anything, it's revealed how out of touch they are with the middle age population that actually can afford to buy their cars. I doubt very few 20 something's can afford a G8X unless mommy or daddy pays for it. BMW has erred here by alienating existing clients in reaching for the wrong demographic. The old business adage is it is almost always eaiser and cheaper to retain existing clients than it is to go out and find and convert new ones.

So this is where you've all gone! What a shame to see so many long standing members that have contributed immensely over the years end up here, terrible what the admins have done . Are you all permanently banned? I saw there was a post at the beginning of this thread that showed it was only temporary for a few months?

You're not missing much over on G8X, nice and dull over there now all saying how great everything is lol. Last few pages of this thread are already far more interesting than whats over there, lots of knowledge from mechanicals to track experience thats now not going to be shared there, their loss.

Doesn't look like its been posted here but thought you might like another cracker of a video by marketing. Didn't see Jason post this on the front page for some reason...

Right. It’s an odd hypothesis that those who are enthusiastic enough about the car/brand to own many and spend a chunk of their lives discussing on forums aren’t representative.

Like everything that motivates and attracts us to M cars is far afield from the perspectives of non-forum members.

There’s no sound basis to think that. If I operate an Italian restaurant with 50 regulars and 45 of them despise my new menu items, I don’t conclude that I’m really onto something with the next 500 who come through the door.

To the extent that the forum audience is disconnected from “regular” M3/M4 buyers, it would mostly have to do with what the car can do (forum types) vs. image/what the car symbolizes (non-forum types).

Historically, the former has informed and boosted the latter. M3’s didn’t become cool by decree, they earned that reputation. Image-based owners wanted what the car legitimately represented, what drivers and enthusiasts said about it.

The G8X is the first that is cool by decree of M. At the moment I’d say they’re trending more toward stigmatic than cool, but we’ll see.

Oh, we discussed this a bit a few pages back. Brilliant, isn’t it? Insulting their own lineage to promote their vision of the future.

So I had plans to pick up a mint E39 M5 over the weekend but I got a text Friday night that he decided to keep it. Super bummed. Unless I get another chance to pick something like that up I just don't see myself buying another BMW. The brand has lost me.

Damn, that is a bummer. I've been eyeing E46's.

Miss my E39 still, almost a decade later. Best long-range car I've ever experienced.
