The G8x forum is like walking into a teenager's sleepover ouija seance party, "Hey what's happenin in here... whaaadaaafuuuukk?"
We'll probably never know what it is, but there's a pretty interesting business story behind how the G8x came to be ... |

What else did you expect them to say? "No its sucks, looks like a beaver but I'm still putting $8xk to buy this car.?"
You'll never convince them. If there's one thing I've learned, people chase after shiny new things just because its... new and novel. That excludes good taste because their brains are getting a dopamine high to own the latest new thing. That's how humans are wired. I've just accepted that this is the new market that BMW is after. It's fine but the big question that will be answered in the next year or two; will there be enough new customers to make up for folks like us who won't buy the car? |

I love how they insinuate that people who don't like it couldn't buy it anyway. I would have definitely purchased a new gen M3 if it didn't look like garbage...

BMW should have made all of it just optionable for people who like it old school. I switch back and forth my ambient lighting from amber to white but I do find the classic amber is the best. Just sometimes you just need a little variety.

Lol I was going to reply to him but it's not even worth it. There is nothing anyone is going to say or do that is going to sway some of those dudes opinions. It really is a cult over there for some of them. The guy that posted that never even owned an m car but has decided that it's the best of the best.
And man I have said it many times but that M3 competition I drove had 0 problems moving from down low. |

Just found it to be a funny and sad brain-washed post. Comments over there read like a cult.

Porsche and Lexus at least did a great design on the 911 and F Cars - they have a large analog RPM gauge surrounded by digital info. Porsche also has the optional sport chrono gauge on center of dash which is also analog. The F80 is a perfect combo of analog with some digital. There is a reason ppl still wear regular watches and not just apple or some other digital readout. It will always be timeless while digital readout will be dated in 5yrs. Tomorrow's gonna be interesting ...
(a.) If the G8x reviews poorly ... (within the bounds of zomg-bmw-please-don't-cut-me-off) it'll be a fail, and, ok the embargo is/was probably a good decision ... But we have to ask ourselves, does BMW make good decisions lately? No. (b.) If the G8x reviews well ... then why the hell with the embargo? To keep the string of poor decisions rollin? Thus whichever of these possibilities happens, it's going to be a well-repeated part of auto business history. On with the show!! |

That's a false equivalency...The HUGE difference here is, outside of some jokes and mockery, the majority of us are/were having civil discussions and critiques of the design of many different brands of comparable cars. All we see over on the G8X section is a bunch of cheerleaders drinking some G8x koolaid. Not the same. We see you too but you're more a causal fan over there

The difference: much more anger and intolerance here. That doesn't apply to all, but definitely to some.

...Because it's also self-evidently obvious: of those willing to type up an opinion online, cheerleaders are in a small minority ... so small that Biimmerpost has had to, for the first time ever, curate their thread by banning negative posters. BMWBlog has said - for the first time ever - they don't know how to fix BMW. Frank Stephenson, BMW design head for 10 years, has said this car "doesn't look like it was designed by BMW". Dealers want you to "get used to it". I could go on. Here's what we know: (1.) As judged by internet chatter including this site, there's an unprecedented amount of G8x dislike to a degree never seen before, (2.) As judged by allocations & dealer stock, the G8x is a US launch failure, (3.) BMW are notorious liars about sales numbers so it'll be a long while before the financial success of the car is known But, hey, a new cohort of BMW buyers may come out of the woodwork - an unvocal-up-to-now group, maybe because they don't even know about it. That could happen. Maybe the G8x's for-some-weird-reason-hidden-by-BMW performance will shockingly get people over polarizing looks. Could happen. Probably won't, but maybe! One can cheerlead while still admitting reality. At least that's what my prom date kept telling me |
