I couldn't help myself and just leased an X4M Comp that will be delivered next week. (Chose the X4 instead of X3 because of the wife's preference.) Super excited nonetheless.
Here's my dilemma, I just moved to Colorado from California, and now my F80 won't be leaving the garage for half of the year most likely. Our other car is a Toyota RAV4 that we use for dirty jobs, taking the dogs places, driving to trails, etc. If I were to trade or sell one, which one should it be? I love my F80, do I dare part ways? If I kept it, should I just be ok with doing some dirty jobs in the X4? I feel like I know the answer to some of these questions but am avoiding the reality . Feel free to call me an idiot or whatever! Haha Side note: both of the other vehicles are paid off if that makes any difference here. |

After looking at that picture, how the hell could you sell it?

How dirty are we talking about? Are your dogs big and hairy? Although it will be totally capable I'm not sure you will enjoy the ride of the X4M off pavement. The only reason I got an X3MC is because it could do jobs that I would consider too dirty or impossible to fit in the M2. I would get rid of the Toyota (should have solid resale value) and keep F80 but do what you and your wife thinks is ultimately best for your situation.

I bought my M3 last august straight cash and it was probably the worst financial decision I've made in my life but I have no regrets.

Is there a reason you need to get rid of the third car? I'm in a similar situation where I live in Iowa and winter is an issue. My wife has a new Highlander that we use as the main family vehicle. I opted to keep my '08 4runner when I purchased my F80 last year. Both are paid off. Other than having a third car to jockey around sometimes and a little bit of additional insurance, I find it very handy to keep the 4runner. For me, there are three months (mid-December to mid-March) where I don't drive the F80 due to temp, snow, and salt on the roads. I daily the 4Runner for these months and then drive it selectively the remainder of the year. This is mainly rain, when I need to haul stuff, or am going to baseball/softball where everything is dirty. I would at least hang on to them until you have a chance to drive the X4M for a while to see if it would fill the void left by potentially parting with the F80.

It's a good idea you brought up about seeing if the X4MC would fill the void if I parted with the F80. At first, I was thinking of making a decision sooner so I could just have a convenient transaction with the dealer and offload whatever vehicle I chose. |

Well, asking in an F80 forum...I think you know the answer. If you can afford to keep it, keep it. If the car still makes you happy that's all that matters. If you need the money or are no longer enamored with it, move on.

If you can afford another car to drive instead of this ken keep it. If you need another car for winter driving I’d consider swapping it out for a 340i model. It’s really all about how you will use it. If it’s worth leaving in the garage for 6+ months of the year paying insurance on a car your not driving then do it, if you need the extra car you’d better off finding one you’d be happy to drive and not care about damaging in the winter/snow.

Long Answer: I personally don't know how you would walk away from an F80 except to look back at it every time you park. I've driven an X3M and imo its not even close. I will be keeping my M3 for a few years and not even thinking about anything else. It's a car where every time I get in it's special and I have had a lot of different cars over the years from an S4 to the M2. The F80 has got that something and it looks better than the new G20 so thats saying something.
Short Answer: Keep the F80 |

If you do keep it, check with your insurance agent about switching your insurance for the months you are storing. I believe it is effectively just removing the collision coverage and keeping comprehensive on it. That is what I do. Just make sure you call and get it put back to full coverage if you ever need to drive it during this time! It would save you some money.

Why would you lease the X4M is my question..
No brainer for me. Return the X4M. Both other cars are paid off and there's absolutely no need for the X4M in Colorado if you have a paid off RAV4. Having a RAV4 and an X4M is like wearing a hat on top of another hat. I'm going to give you benefit of the doubt and assume you weren't even considering parting ways with that beautiful M3. |

I originally purchased my M3 in hopes of replacing my Acura daily. Both are paid off and ended up keeping both as they each have different responsibilities. No one needs to drive to the gym/grocery store and get their quarter panels damaged. Haha. My 2c.

Lol. Can you elaborate? Are you regretting paying in cash full? Or just car purchase in general? I would agree paying for used car in cash in today's low interest environment is bad idea

This thread is therapeutic as I’ve been fighting the same demons so my apologies for partially jacking. I got the M3 10 months ago as an impulse decision. Man she’s been good to me. But 5,000 miles over the period as my daily driver has me wondering why I need this car. Add in that all I do is go to soccer fields with bags of equipment and park where mindless little bastards, aka kids, are piling out of minivans denting whatever’s in their path and the M3 became downright exhausting. So I came up with this plan to lease an X5.
I fell in love with it and now know for my lifestyle (extremely bad back, can’t stand hand washing the M and those fucking devil wheels) the X5 is the right vehicle. I haven’t started the M since the X5 arrived. But for whatever reason I can’t part with the M. She’s like a work of art. My brother gave me some great advice. Only make the decision after it’s been warm outside and you’ve driven it recently. As the poster above said, even with these ridiculous financial decisions I’m making, I have no regrets. We are very fortunate to experience these cars. Best of luck Op. My vote is ditch the rav 4 |
