Versus above, Red is showing MORE decel. initially but it's also showing you how early you can get on throttle which is EXTREMELY important in this area because you can go wide open all the way to 7 - so imagine how much speed you'll gain approaching the bridge compared to the other route. In scenario one, you get instant results right at the corner but ultimately you can't get on power fast enough in a rocket of a car. Scenario two, you'll initially lose about 2 tenths but you'll gain close to a second before the left hander.
Niiiice.... so sounds like you're suggesting that my line for 5 is basically OK, but essentially more "slow in" to get angled better and set myself up for earlier throttle. Correct me if I'm wrong there.

Hope you get your insurance sorted soon -- would be great to get you back down here on a day with MoE so I can try to chase your R8's ass around

Hopefully I'll be back at Lightning on 6/21, will definitely report back! Thx again!

Yeah! Think about it from the perspective of, your cars angle at apex. You can hit the same apex, but the car with more rotation is at an angle to be at WOT vs maintenance.

Start turning your steering wheel about 5' before the end of the curbing, you can trail brake a little bit here but the goal is to have the car completely straight so you can get on throttle and stay on it through the crest, even if you have to momentarily lift a little right at the top. The key here is that since you're going uphill your rear end is loaded so you'll have less grip in the front tires to turn in real quick - that's why you want to be a little bit slower or use braking to shift a little weight to the front tires as you enter the turn.

You want the car settled and completely tangent to the apex as you go through it. I'm not doing it correctly either - I should have had my front end rotated more toward the car in front of me and a bit further to the left (using my vid so you can see the apex). The sweet spot here is to have your passenger side tires just barely over this apex (like < 6"). Once you find this spot, you'll be able to go relatively flat through here. After you go over the crest you'll be going downhill and your front end will be loaded so you'll have good grip and will turn in easily.

As far as insurance goes, I'm all done with the Z06 claim. Right now I'm just waiting on a set of track wheels for the R8 but I'll definitely catch you at lightning. It's one of my favorite tracks here.

Check out 11:40 - See where he turns in and how he quickly turns his wheel straight over the apex? He's carrying less throttle than I think he normally would but it looks there was an oil spill that got cleaned up shortly before right on the line.

Thanks again G, the marked-up screen grabs were super helpful, as was the video. I've always respected that as a tricky turn, but now with an even greater appreciation of some of the nuances I'd say it's rather diabolical, particularly as it leads to a long straight

Definitely - those are the key turns on every fast/medium or long circuit. Anything that comes right before a long straight is where your baseline for a fast lap begins. The rest of the gains come with a lot of time/skill but at that point you're fighting for smaller deltas. It's the same for turn 2 at the Glen - because the esses and the back straight are in front of you, you want to exploit your power, go as fast as possible through the esses and just fly through the back straight in order to gain massive +delta there.

A corner that immediately follows a corner is typically the least significant (unless this is a shorter/slower circuit).

GridLife 2021 Spring KickOff @ Gingerman Raceway

StreetGT Results

1:38.730 - 2015 F80 (305/30/19 RE71R Square, GCC Kit, Full SPL Suspension, Dinan Stg1, Active Autowerke MidPipe, CCB Iron Kit)

Pretty pumped to run this time in some pretty adverse conditions, it was SUPER hot this past weekend and with cooler temps the car most likely has a full second in it. Bummed to miss out on P1 this time but Chris laid it down in the one good session we had all weekend. Hopefully we'll drop into the 37's for the next go around.

Great job dude. 38.73 is nearly 2/10ths better than I managed in the GTS before Cup 2's chunked. That's a really solid time.

If it's not a Camaro it's a Vette just pipping you.

A fun graph I thought would be appreciated here.

My AIM GPS speed data at The Ridge from my best lap time with my clients M3, vs my personal 2021 SS 1LE. (completely stock except for a mild track alignment)

Some surprising and not so surprising information -

M3 -

Driver: KHC
Date: April 17th, 2021
Track: Ridge MP
Car: 2018 M3c DCT
Time: 1:49.59
Mods: MCS 2way, Ferodo ds1.11, Girodisc rotors, HR front bar, A052 Square (265/40/18)

Camaro -

Driver: KHC
Date: June 14th, 2021
Track: Ridge MP
Car: 2021 Camaro SS 1LE
Time: 1:50.21
Mods: Mild track alignment, otherwise as delivered.

- The M3 is fast!
- The stickier tires and more camber really help the M3 mid corner
- Even in stock form, the 1LE has incredible front end grip and brakes

Cool comparison. 1LE is so capable even stock.

6000 mark looks to be an anomaly. Why wasn't the M3 able to match or best the 1LE there?

Turn 7 - Turn 8. Front end grip....It's a weird section, abrupt down hill with a short hard braking zone. The 1LE's front end grip allows going to the brakes much much later. As they are now, they are polar opposites handling wise.

Here's a video that at 4:29 shows the Turn 7-8 area. NOTE - Sample video to show the turn 7-8 zone, not me driving.

OK @NYG, I don't know man -- that turn 5.... still not sure if I'm getting it right. I managed a few tenths better on my best lap relative to previous day, but was hoping for a bit more. Almost feel like I was overslowing too much at the turn-in for 5. I do feel my confidence was not at 100% due to having to deal with a Chassis restricted error from a bum front vertical acceleration sensor (now fixed), so maybe I can blame some on that

Definitely digging the upgraded sound setup

Going to take a look after work brotha.

What's your camber/toe/ride height settings and what cold tire pressures were you running? Any hot readings?

Will work on getting some of this info to you later... also waiting to get car back with its new tensioner/pulley from my overrev mishap (possibly today or tomorrow). And yes, that was my first day with my pyrometer getting some tire temps, so have some data there too

EDIT-- Ok, here's what I got:

ALIGNMENT
Front: Camber is about -3.0; not exactly sure, but I think toe is about 0.25* out on each side (this is what I handwrote from my alignment shop which they told me verbally, because alignment sheet was printed when car was aligned at my street camber setting.
Rear: Camber -1.9, toe-in 0.17* per side

RIDE HEIGHT (measured from bottom lip of 437M wheel to arch)
Front: 24.75"
Rear: 23 5/8"

TIRE DATA
Bear in mind again this was my first time doing this. I'll share here just the data after my 4th session, when I feel like my method was consistent and the data seemed somewhat sensical. Was on Lightning (CW track), measurements were in paddock, but I was set up very close to exit lane in an attempt to minimize cool-off. The outside tires seem to have a nice even temperature, but I seem to have a large gradient on the inside tire -- too much negative camber for the inside tires (esp pass front)?

Driver front:
O 178, M 177, I 180, hot pressure 35
Pass front:
O 150, M 165, I 180, hot pressure 34
Driver rear:
O 185, M 184, I 186, hot pressure 33
Pass rear:
O 159, M 168, I 179, hot pressure 32

I have to say this pyrometer seems to be a very good value:
