It's significantly faster than my previous M4cs, and quite faster than 718 GT4s, not even in the same ballpark actually (I was already faster in my M4cs than most 718 GT4 I came across). Since I can no longer schlepp my track tires in the car, I use mild R-comp tires, the 991.2 GT3RS N2 spec PSC2, that I can both daily and track. The TT is much more nimble and eager to change direction than the M4, with gobs more power and tremendous traction coming out of corners, and those brakes really haul ass. I also love how they tuned the AWD, where it mostly feels like a RWD car with nice on-throttle rotation. More throttle will even yield drifts until the front wheels pull it back in line. Sublime handling this thing has. In the videos below, the GT4 is on PSC2 while the TT is on PZ4 (I was able to shave over 1 sec/min lap when I installed the PSC2 on my TT). As you can see, not in the same ballpark at all (>5 sec/lap faster). One could argue that the GT4 offers a purer driving experience, but the combination of practicality and speed of the TT is hard to beat.

Well, still no G8x, but now 911 turbos are officially more common on the West Coast this year:

Ok, this banning thing is getting really out of hand.
TTGator who has a very handy DIY youtube channel for the F8x platform is also banned? https://www.youtube.com/c/HelpmeDIY This is seriously overdone. P.S. This may get me banned too by posting this lol. |

Like seriously? Is it just me? Like this is very not good looking ... Not truly heinous, but not good ... better than a butterface, but why is that the bar to cross?

Many of BMW’s current designs stray far from the brand’s heritage. Cars like the 7 Series, X7, 4 Series, M3, M4, i4, iX and even the new 2 Series all have funky designs that have caused some sort of controversy since their release. However, BMW fans will be happy to learn that the next-gen 5 Series will get a more tradition design, with normal sized kidney grilles. From Ynguldyn: Likely nomenclature for PHEV G60: the 45e models will be based on the detuned B58 U2 version (270hp from the engine and likely something close to 100hp from the EM), the 50e models will use the M2 version of B58, adding another 100hp. This is an estimate, not a precise number, but should be pretty close. G60 expected gasoline powered models: 530i (B48M2), 540i (B58M2), 545e (B58U2+EM), 550e (B58M2+EM)It'll be great if BMW finds its way to its design heritage ... clearly, given BMW's latest designs, ads, & online presence they've been under the spell of some bad marketing/strategy consultants, but it sounds like Zipse may be slowly reeling it back in ... It's notable that BMW Blog is openly talking about these designs as "not elegant, not simple" and saying "BMW fans will be glad ..." implying that BMW fans aren't fans of the new designs ... that seems VERY notable ... dare I say, "given permission if only implicit"? Either way, for fans of BMW's heritage, it sounds like the new 5er will be a popular car ...

Has anyone seen sales figures for the G8X yet? I’d love to review an apples-to-vomited-on-apples comparison of sales numbers versus the F8X, even if we need to consider the impacts of the chip shortage and stop sales.

Video of the full lap: Of note, 7:09 is for the full lap. 7:04 for the AMS Lap, which is the one most used for comparisons. But to be fair, this was likely achieved with the super sticky PSC2-R.

While its design has luckily been close to their heritage, the driving experience is far behind and has sadly been like this since the beginning of the F10. Hated my 540i, drove like a damn Buick, and it was loaded with all of the goodies for tech and handling, not to mention had too many unscheduled service visits. Probably my least favorite BMW I've had, but it was inherited so I wasn't gonna say no. The M550i I test drove had the same issue, great engine, poor chassis. The fact that I switched to a Mercedes for a better handling vehicle that actually gives a nicer trade off of sport/luxury is really sad for BMW.

Absolutely no clue. This was his last post I think? https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1764714 It must have been sanitized by the mods. He’s always been helpful. PS. Just crossed my mind that it might have been b/c he was promoting some other products/vendors but I haven’t seen any in his vids.Very DIY stuff. |

Though I'd say that it's not truly heinous, but it's also worse than a butterface. As you may know, 'butterface' comes from 'but her face', meaning, there's something else about the girl that's worth another round. In the case of the first two generations of the 1 Series, it was the USP - RWD + inline six. Sub par interior quality, questionable looks (in the case of the E8x), tiny cabin, great driving dynamics. E87 3-door 130i - one of the best driving BMWs, yet much rarer than the 1M Coupe. F2x M135i/M140i - they've sold tonnes of those for a reason. Well, this FWD egg has traded the above for a better interior. That's all. It's gotten uglier and lost its USP - being the only RWD hatch AND the only one with more than four cylinders in its class. Driving the 118 version, which is the most ubiquitous version round these parts, just felt meh to me. The M135xi is an AWD 2.0-liter that's apparently not fun at all... I don't see them on the road much if at all. However, the UK journos say the FWD 128ti does a better job of being a Golf GTI than the Volkswagen itself whilst having a better cabin and being cheaper to buy & lease (at least in the UK). Passive dampers, limited slip, and some model-specific chassis modifications have apparently made it much better. Also, the Golf's all-touchscreen interior is truly awful. Wolfsburg weed must be strong. To be fair, we could also argue how much the rear-drive architecture matters to buyers of the 1 Series... The vast majority don't give a crap. There's not much fun to be had in a base RWD 116i anyway. Driven by elderly Bavarian ladies or young British girls who've upgraded from a Fiat 500.

I doubt this will make the front page, but C&D just did a M5 vs RS7 vs CT5-V Blackwing. Guess who won...

By request, some photos from my Land Rover Safari Namibia. I am back and ready to go buy a Defender 90! No way I can't recommend such a trip. Vast landscapes, drifting through dry river beds, steep dune drops and a little bit of rock trails...amazing!
Sorry it's long and occupies a lot of space...but this thread became non-BMW a long time ago! AND THEN THERE WERE THE ANIMALS!!! I saw the ultimate...a start-to-finish lion kill at a water station (watering hole) in Etosha National Park. The lioness tested the Oryx herd twice, went back, cuddled the Lion and then went for it and got one. In the middle of the day, no less! They usually hunt at night. The Namibian guide said he'd only seen this once before in his entire life! The other females helped hold it down while the male went for the jugular and killed it. Then the cubs came over. The male must not have been hungry as he went over to two more cubs and signaled they could go eat. He went back to resting at the water's edge. Watching the other animals watch all this was fascinating. All the herd animals just stood there gawking as we do when we see catastrophe. Then in short order, back to normal, threat is gone as the animal is consumed. The best of all were the two bull elephants who had center stage at the concrete pad in the middle of the watering hole. There couldn't be bothered to even watch what was happening. What an advertisement for Land Rover! Some other shots and the general route...note it's not accurate because google wont go to the off-road sections.
