Rightfully so.. Just like any other premium brands can charge extra for their brand image. Its not always what the car is capable of.
Yet you'll still find few cars in the world at any given time more as capable as they are.

GT4 is not mass produced. There's only 600 of them made with 200 reserved for 918 owners if they want them. I'm not sure where you got the idea that it will be mass produced... The GT4 is no different than a 991 GT3. LIMITED.
An M3 is a true M car. The M philosophy is to create the most motorsport oriented version of their street cars. Its in essence a sporty car you can drive every day on the street and take it on the track. It is the jack of all trades but master of none. actually the F8X is the first M car to do that right out the factory since the E30. The E36, E46, and especially E90 needed brake work to keep them on the track longer than 20 minutes. And all this hoopla against forced induction need to remember BMW made the grandfather to the M3 in the 2002 turbo complete with M stripes. BMW Porsche and just about every other sports car manufacturer out there has used forced induction at one point or another.

The GT3 is not limited to a specific number either. Just the production cycle could be shorter. In the Cayman GT4 its probably going to be a year to year and a half.

And yes a GT4 is mass produced along with every other cayman and 911 and every other model under the 918. they are on an assembly line...a very awesome one with almost entirely all human hands building them. Porsche will build as many as they get orders for.

Well I would say for what Porsche engineers create its worth the cost of admission. I don't buy them because of the crest on the hood. They are fantastic focused vehicles. Find a Porsche that has an artificial speed limiter on it.... you won't. Thats because a Porsche's brakes are designed to handle the engines top speed, the suspension, the tires, ect. ect. this all adds up quite a bit. BMW's motors certainly can get the vehicles up to nearly 200 mph but they limit them mainly so they can save costs designing a vehicle to a lower speed.

The GT4 is a great track toy you can get to and from your home. Its even a fun weekend cruise car however it always wants to be pushed much harder than would be safe or legal on a public street.

The M3/M4 is a great all around car that is quite capable on a track stock. with some wider gummy tires I think it actually would be right there with a cayman GT4. We shall see this summer.

point being originally the question of this post. would a cayman gt4 replace an M3? I think the cayman gt4 would be a poor replacement for an all around sporty car. they are however going to be great stable mates for those lucky enough to have them both.

GT4 appears to be quite the track toy. $84,600 MSRP. Certainly not cheap lol.

Actually think it is quite a bargain.

Many expected the price tag to be much higher.

I also think it's a bargain for what it is, depends how you look at it I guess. I personnaly look I it as it is the same price as the cheapest 911 you can get, with zero option and 350hp, or ~1/4 of the price of a Speciale!

And you know this car will retain it's value!!

For what you're getting, it's a bargain.

There is more done to this car than almost any car you'll come across, and that fully knowing they held back a lot on this car, as they always do.

It's flat out gorgeous too. Nothing for the price will handle anywhere close.

Indeed. He was always a big fan of the more 'base' Cayman models too so not surprising he likes the hyper-Cayman.

....and it is hard to blame him.

awesome review. with all of the GT3 parts, this car seems to really be like the 1M was to the e92 M3, and I mean that in a good way. anyone lucky to get their hands one of these should hold onto it, as I suspect it will really hold its value (moreso than the 991 GT3s).

I agree, to an extent. Once you start to spec the car out though, you start to enter territory where similarly-priced competitors have much more potent motors.

I guess it all depends on what one prioritizes. If a 911-like chassis and 6MT are among the most important criteria, this seems to be the way to go without entering top tier 911 price territory.

There is no other car in its segment with a better power to weight . Remember it's a 29xx pound mid engined sports car with 385 hp/315 tq , wide wheels/rubber and the GT3's suspension . To put it in perspective it has a better power to weight than the M4 . That being said the driving experience is why you buy a car like this , and that's were it is an incredible value . It's a true drivers car , it's not for someone stat racing hp numbers . That being said it will be plenty quick in a straight line and will dominate on track .
