Echoing sentiments from previous posters. I don't like the sounds from the new engine. The M3 definitely caught my eye compared to the M4. Super excited about Austin Yellow and YMB. Looks like a solid package and can't wait to see it at NAIAS!

I was not a fan of the new 3 or 4, but these cars are gorgeous. I was expecting to be disappointed and I'm blown away.
I'll take an LCI M3 in silverstone w/ black leather and the black wheels. |

I think the 5.0 Coyote in the GT puts down around 370whp stock and is rated 420hp if I recall (give or take a couple hp) for comparison, but we're expecting the F80 to be underrated, so maybe 390whpish? N55s are putting down around 270whp while rated at 300 (or 305), so they're not hugely underrated in terms of power, although tq seems to be underrated by a fair amount. |

This is actually a BMW reported time, which we all know tends to be conservative. I'm sure the published time in car journals will be below 4 sec for both the manual and DCT transmissions.

My stockers hit 18.2 psi on 93 octane and with E45. Most FBO N54's are hitting 18 psi on an aggressive tune.

IE will the same items such as -nav -power seats etc be standard on the base m3 when ordering a car? or is the dealer order guide standard features different than what we will be able to order? I ask because I would order an m3 and based on the standard options on the dealer order guide I would not add any options, and could save a lot of money that way. Thanks for your feedback

But I am sure it has been done as you say. My other friend who went aggressive on his N54 fried his turbos lol. Luckily our mutual friend is a tech and used his CPO to replace them for free after taking the car back to stock before bringing it in. Replaced his trans for him under CPO too, about $18k all together done for $0. It is good to have the right friends

Okay I know the F80/F82 M3/M4 will be faster than the E9X M3, but I can't agree that it sounds better.
Here's a video comparo. The S65 has a more dynamic sound, but I guess love for sound is subjective.

I have been pushing 18 psi + for the past 2 years and am still on the original turbos at 72k miles. Now, I don't beat the living $hit out of my car like a lot of people probably do but I don't baby it either. I am very interested in this new M4 but my initial concern for tuners is the same as most. How close to maxed out are these turbos? Obviously running catless dp's and a less restrictive intake / exhaust is going to help but if it's anything like the N54, gains from intake and exhaust are VERY minimal. I'm sure that BMW has put in a MUCH better intercooler as the stock FMIC on the N54 was trash. EDIT: Keep in mind that this is PEAK boost and it tapers off to around 12 psi at redline. Running 18 psi to reddline is turbo suicide. Last edited by JStang; 12-12-2013 at 10:40 AM.. |

One could argue that in many places E85 is pump fuel I guess, but I see your point, 93 octane is it not, more like go go juice. |

Just can't wait to see the M3 with Comp Package. Need to hear the real engine though.

My thinking is, 2-3psi on the new M3 is about all you would net before your out of the turbos effective range, so MUCH smaller headroom than an N54 where you can more than double the stock PSI. But I feel like 18psi on a stock turbos for the N54 is ragged edge/borrowed time. My friend who's turbos went, that was 85k miles. Let's be honest, with the S55 it is all conjecture. But I think it is realistic there is room for more boost, just no where near the N54, but that is also a 280whp engine to start with-basically 18psi nets you where the S55 is starting out power wise.
