Here's my back to back comparison of the 4S's and the PSS in the first 200 miles. Air pressure in both sets was 35lbs. I had stock 437M wheels with stock 255/275 BMW star PSS when I purchased my 17' M3. Bought new 20" wheels 20X9.5 ET 20 and 20X11 ET40 PS4S 265/30/20 and 295/30/20. The things I didn't like about the star PSS. 1 Harsh ride, hit a road reflector was like hitting a brick. 2. loose gravel was constantly being slung up in my wheel wells and down the side of my car. One of the roads I commute on is a rough aggregate asphalt road that has loose pieces of asphalt everywhere. 3. traction was control always intervening. With the 4S, this 20" tire is a lot plusher than my 19" PSS with a 1/2" less side wall. They are a lot quieter as well, I mean significantly to the point where my wife noticed. No more slinging rocks driving down the loose aggregate asphalt road. I can't say anything about grip or handling yet as I'm still breaking in the tires getting rid of the mold release lube.

There is absolutely no need to do an alignment when swapping tires.

This is a gimmick most tires shop do: "We can verify your alignment for free if you wish"... ..."oh look, your alignment is out of spec, this will destroy your brand new expensive tires, but luckily we can fix this for you for $$$."
Thanks. That's what I figured.

Tried ordering the 265/295 19" MPSS combo through Costco (best pricing) and the store I called said they are not allowed to install tires that aren't the exact size that came on the car!

I'll try another one but I guess that's the compromise of going through Costco.

Buy and install elsewhere.

You'll end up doing that if internet order anyway.

I wouldn't go to Costco or Sams Club for install. You want a place that has the right machines with the proper wheel protection in place. I went to a place and had 3 wheels get a line cut into the edge of the wheel because the some plastic safety piece cracked and broke and the facility kept using the machine.

Also if you hate wheels vibrations, you want a place the has a road force balancing machine.

Thanks - Appreciate the advice. The local tire shop I typically use wants $1625 vs Costco at $12xx hence why I was looking there. Sam's was like $1400.

perfect, thanks for the feedback mate

+1 on the road reflector run over, feels like its ripping the dash out

less road noise will be huge for us in australia, as our road surfaces outside the city are mainly low cost coarse chip bitumen - preferred method for rural councils to reseal a road is spray down tar, then drop millions of tiny stones and wait for passing cars to compact it

You can buy at those places and have them installed where you like. I bought mine from tire Rack and then took to the local Discount Tire store and had them installed because they have the road force balancer.

Yeah but around me no one wants to install someone else's tires so any savings goes away. In any case I was able to find a good compromise. Hopefully have them on soon.

You said "I went to a place", but you didn't say it was Costco. Was this a Costco? I've had several sets of tires installed at Costco with no problem.

I'm pretty sure that the style 437 wheels are too narrow for a 305 tire. My rear 305/35-18 NT01s fit on 18x11 Apex wheels.

No it was a local tire shop who hired an employee that wasn't properly trained and their equipment wasn't in spec. I've been to Sams Club and I wouldn't let them put a tire on a wheel barrow. No matter what place I go to have tires installed, I always make sure they have good equipment and the people know how to use it. My BMW dealer doesn't know how to force their Hunter machine to Force match the wheel and tire assembly. Plus, they've damaged 2 wheels and damaged the bead on a tire. I go to Discount Tire where I live and they all know how to use their new equipment and they take very good care of what I bring them.

So I guess 295 is the widest option for the stock 437m wheel.

No, guys are running 305's on OEM wheels. It's pretty bulgy but it works. But again, it comes back to specific tire - for example, RE71R's don't run as wide on tread width as a MPSS or the 4S, so a 305 works better in that case.

Remember just because a wider tire fits doesn't mean you'll retain a larger contact patch. Use tires that are properly sized for your wheels.

So regarding the ps4s, 285/35/19 would be a good fit for the stock rear considering there's no 295/35/19 option for the ps4s
