Some photos tweeted by Chris Harris below. He seemed impressed with the gauges and the seats.

"The C63 is twatting fast, doesn't have a pussy in-line six like that nancy BMW" That's what the man from AMG didn't say. (But wanted to) I found this funny Last edited by bimmerj; 10-03-2014 at 08:32 PM.. |

Chris Harris is very fond the new M3/M4. He also thoroughly enjoyed the W204 C63 and loved what he experienced during his AMG GT ride-along with Tobias Moers. His sense of humor about the rivalry is something we should all take a lesson from. Clearly we can enjoy both of these amazing competitors; they're both incredible performers (and good looking inside and out to boot). Each car has its own strengths and weaknesses (though I happen to think that the weaknesses are minor and few and far between). I think it will be impossible to say that one car is "better" than the other. The C63 will likely be faster in a straight line (historically that has been the case) but the M3/M4 will shine on shorter, more technical tracks whereas the C63 will have the edge on longer, faster circuits (e.g., the Nurburgring/Nordschleife).

I really hope MB fixed the MCT for the over heating and downshift issue. If it did, this will definitely be a car that should be on everyone's radar. It's really too bad they didn't just put a true DCT in it. That, IMO, would have made the car a real game changer for MB.

That two tone black/white interior looks world class.
I'm guessing an easy $7-10K increase over its predecessor. The coupe version can't come fast enough! |

They're standard in the C63 and GT - optional in the CLA45. I've heard the price hike for the base model could be as low as $2k.

Yes... but... on the surface it does look like MB has done a good job of closing the performance gap. Power to weight is better so it will likely be much faster in a straight line if that matters to someone. We will need to see where track performance shakes out but I bet it is very close. The only real weakness I can see in the C63 is the transmission. Other than that, it is a great car... I really hope BMW steps up with the competition package with improvements that put it over the top again.

the fast lane quoted the standard amg 0-60 in 4.0 and the amg s as 3.9 to 60. I'm guessing the 1/4 mile and trap speed will be a bit faster than the m3/m4 though. it's no surprise that the AMG went for big power and the M division didn't. seems like a trend and this will be another case of it coming down to minor detail preferences. i think the rear end of the c63 somewhat ruined the car for me. still gonna be sweet though.

According to BMWusa it isn't going to much heavier at all. M3 curb weight 3595 lbs. And real world weight of customer M3's have not been anywhere near BMW's BS claims.
Scott, why does the 328ix/335ix weigh more than the C300/C400 4matic? MBusa: C300/C400 weigh in at 3,594/3,693 lbs BMWusa: 328ix/335ix weigh in at 3,625/3,720 lbs |
