This, ladies and gentlemen, is the beginning of BMW weening us off of manual transmission cars. Mark my words!

It will likely share the front splitter with the M4 CS. The M4 CS splitter does not have the scallops needed to accommodate the the M-Performance CF covers.

If electric cars go mainstream, BMW doesn't want to get left behind. Electric cars have insane torque and doesn't need a manual gearbox. It would slow the car down performance wise. For driving enthusiasts, it sucks since it takes the fun out of shifting. In the not so distance future, driving will probably be a past-time anyways. We'll be passengers in all vehicles even if you sit in the drivers seat.

So disappointed the CS version of the M3 is not offered in a manual.
At this point; I am thinking the M2 CS which has a great ratio of (6MT) sales in the base M2 will not offer a manual transmission. I know many think it will, but I just don’t see it. |

The car in the photo is a test mule. It is most likely a very early pre-production F80 M3 that is being reused for the M3 CS development. It is very common. |

This is making me want to cancel my current M3 order and wait for the CS. Ughhh
If its around $85-90k i think it would be good deal. |

I'm guessing the car will be in the $90-$100k range (closer to $100k), or more.
It's highly improbable a special edition F80 will only cost the sum of parts/options. There must be a surcharge for exclusivity. |

I've looked at a few places and costed them out the best I can, and the cost of adding the bits this car has after buying just a CP by my calculations comes to about $12600 (front splitter, hood, M wheels/tyres and rear spoiler). So to me, if it's any more than that premium over a CP, it's hardly worth it - especially as you can sell the hood and wheels/tyres that come with it. Sure, the suspension tweaks and extra power would be nice, but I'm ok with what I have. The car I have specs out to about $79500, so $92000 would be about the break even point for me to consider the CS model to be of value to me. $90K would be good. $100K would be a no-go unless something special came with it - like a 7MT or massaging seats (by that I mean a hot blonde sitting in the back massaging me through the cutouts). |

11 months from now will be the last month of production. I'll bet you we find out about this model before that!

Agreed. Unless they do something like the E90 CRT...

They've been removing manual transmissions from the option sheet for a long time now. You haven't been able to get a 7 Series with a manual transmission for generations now, and the 5 Series similarly hasn't had the option since the E60 if not the E39 (in the US, anyway). Similar story for the X5 and the X3. And the X4/X6 have never had manuals offered. Even with today's 3 Series, there are only some models that can be had with manual. And the 4 Series GC has no manual on offer at all. On the M front, the manual was removed from the M5 last generation except in the US, and the new one has no manual even here in the US. M8 will not have a manual either. The only upcoming BMW I know of that is currently reported to get a manual option is the Z4. Hopefully that becomes a reality. It is still likely for the next 1, 2, 3, 4 Series to all offer manuals in some capacity, but that hasn't yet been confirmed. I should add that the next M2 is all but a lock for the MT option too. |

They'll still be producing manual cars, but my guess is only the low-spec models that the US and other markets outside Europe don't even get. So exactly where it makes the least sense for enthusiasts. There's really no added Freude am Fahren by a manual transmission in a G30 520d. I think the F2x/F3x are the last hurrah of manual, RWD, inline-six Bimmers. |
