I had two incidents where an American muscle car was trying to race on my way home from PCD (forgive me for not being able to tell them apart so I cannot say what they were, but they were newer models). I just stayed in the right lane and looked forward; eventually they went away.

I got "hit up" by a 435 and a C63 yesterday with my kid in the child seat in the back. Easiest thing to do is just wave and give an approving look with a thumbs up and drive normal. Mostly they want to "play" but the ball is always in your court.

On the flip side, I get a lot more people cutting me off and behaving very aggressive towards me and NOT in performance type cars. It's camrys priuses, Jetta's etc. pedestrian cars. I think they see a nice looking expensive-ish sporty car and I think they assume I'm going to not let them in so they speed up and cut me off etc. Maybe it's envy, or prejudice against BMW sports cars in general, because let's be honest, the M3/4 is aggressive looking. It brings out the worst in some people including fellow motorists.

Did you have trouble understanding one of the steps?

OP wants to drive the car, but not get attention. Aside from choosing a chameleon color like white/black/gray, de-badging isn't a terrible option.

Like other said, ignore it as much as you can. Here in Florida, it seems to be worse than any other place I've been. The problem is that there are so many idiots that truly think that their Civic with a filter is as fast as the M3/4.

There is some truth about the young 20 something year olds driving beat up civics with the modded exhaust systems. My friends that own M3s, M2s, Porsches and other cars like that say the same thing. They always seem most likely to instigate a challenge.

This.

I don't think it's envy or whatever, driving an ///M is like walking around in basketball shorts carrying a basketball: some people are going to ask you to shoot a few hoops.

The alternative is to get a Midnight Blue 440 and mod the shit out of it: still fast but ain't nobody gonna try to race you

Like others have stated, just ignore them. I usually waive back and say "Hi" or a "Thumbs Up" or sometimes I just ignore them. No hard feelings. Not like I know them. I have had a few times where I was cruising along with my other M3,M4,S4 and WRX friends and other random cars try to mess with us,or initiate something, but we don't budge. It's just not worth it in my opinion. We know what our cars are capable of

I live in the smack middle of Chicago, and due to rarely getting the M3 above 70mph, I get no race requests

Just ignore them. They go away eventually. I've had a few people try and challenge the M3. But much to their dismay I just ignore them. Or for funsies I'll give them "look" and then continue to drive normally in the slow lane lol. But in general as everyone has stated, just ignore them and go about your business.

I have never had anyone act aggressively or try to race me. I think that to most people I am driving a black BMW in a sea of black BMWs.
Anyone who attempts to race me (on the street) is definitely going to win.

I've had a Huracan owner track me down just to talk cars.

I've had drunk people "woot" me on the street after hearing the exhaust.

I've been pulled over by a squad car just to ask exactly what it was.

I've gotten a lot of people to take a second look, mostly I think they are just trying to figure out exactly what it is. The color, noise, and headlights (LEDs) are probably what most people notice it.

Not much negative attention though. I think, for the most part, people either don't know/care what it is or if they do know what it is, they enjoy seeing something different.

I also haven't had many people edge me to race or anything, I wouldn't race anyways though. I had an old guy in a stingray rev his engine before turning once but that stuff doesn't phase me or anything. Generally, if someone in another 'performance' car sees me, they try to speed up to me just to get a closer look and then give me a thumbs up.

In conclusion, I only take my car out once or twice a week since I travel during the week and it's snowy here, so it has been a pretty good showing thus far.
Did any of this actually happen?! A cop pulled you over to ask about the car ? Come on now.

That happens. I was pulled over in my Evo once by a State Trooper who just wanted to talk cars. Yeah, a freakin' Evo!

Hi Everyone,

I'm often reading about people "complain" about other drivers pulling up besides them and wanting to race their yellow, light blue, bright red special order coloured cars with CF roof etc.

Are you guys really that surprised? As beautiful as they are, these colours are pretty much begging for attention from both street racers and vandals.

I see no more road rage in the M than I've experienced with my previous, more pedestrian cars (S4/335i)

Remember guys most people don't know what your car really is. They know it looks sporty but so does a Corolla S. In this sense they don't know what you have is a truly special car, they just think you are in an expensive sporty 3 series. I think we forget how utterly clueless 99% of the population is with cars.

What I do experience is more attention overall, mostly positive. Several straight up thumbs up from younger guys at stoplights, 3 or 4 times kids in parking lots have yelled "I like your car!"

It adds to the experience, and its cool to see some people are paying attention.

I love AW/SO with CF bits and think it looks awesome, I guess I'm not the only one.

I got a chuckle out of "those complaining" posts you're referring to, because I've been egged on to race by random cars as well. Never been harassed, but then again I drive a MW M3.

I wouldn't take those threads too seriously, they're just guys comparing notes is all. If one guy stops himself (or herself) from getting into a stupid situation as a result of the thread, it will be all be worthwhile.

Besides - I doubt de-badging would do much good. Anyone who wants to race you will know what it is.

I got cut off, hooted at and flashed while driving home from MRLS in my white BRZ last night - while doing 45 in a 45 in Gilroy. I guess he/she didnt like my Laguna Seca sticker?

Black Accord V6 was upset about something, but you know what they say:

"You can't argue with stupid"

True but once in a while you need to show the kids what you have under your hood. Lol
