To people like you and I, f80 and f30 are very different, absolutely. We can tell with one glance from what we think are many details.

But other people just can’t tell, and that’s the main point of my post

My brother’s e63 wagon couldn’t be differentiated from regular e350, ditto his 987.2 Cayman S vs 981 GT4 (both white... did you put a wing on your car?) and my same clueless coworkers think my mint condition but very old and with fried egg headlights 996 turbo is a new 911 costing > $130k

Boggles my mind but that’s how normies are

My M4 interior is perfect, I like it and I didn't have any rattles. But if you compare the exterior, M4 or any BMW is fare superior to Tesla. X,Y, S or 3 are basically the same cars, they just stretched on X, Y or Z the model S to make the model X, 3 and Y.. These car don't have any soul

You might consider educating yourself about Tesla prior to posting, because almost nothing you wrote is accurate. Just sayin'...

It's impossible to respect an opinion that the Earth is flat.

Similarly, it's hard to respect a statement that model X & 3 are "basically the same cars, they just stretched".
Does an X5 look the same as 3-series?
Really, dude !?

I am not sure who "we" is referring to, or how small of a subset of a population that is.
For an average person, a BMW is a BMW, and they all look the same (with the exception of i3 & i8).

You will be lucky if an average person can tell a 3-series apart from a 5-er, without checking the badge first, and asking what the numbers mean. Anything within the 3-series ranges will be treated the same by an average observer.

Yeah, and that tiny little 2nd motor that makes it go faster than any BMW or MB product available at any price.

Minor stuff.

You may indeed be well educated, but apparently not about Tesla:

The Model S and Model X share a platform.

The Model 3 and upcoming Model Y share a (much newer, more advanced, more efficient, smaller) platform.

2 different platforms, for 4 different models of vehicle.

I like the Model 3 in theory, but the thing is just too damn ugly and uninspiring. Somewhat subjective I know, but at the same time almost EVERY review / critique starts with how pedestrian the looks are. Hopefully Tesla addresses this with the next refresh, along with adding some exclusive bits to differentiate the Perf model.

I like the car and was fine with what I bought it for, so I’m all good.

The price today isn’t different than what I paid in Sept 2018 due to refund for PUP anyway, so I personally don’t see the issue anyway.

My$0.02, how can people pay >$100k for F80 is a bigger question. (Biased since I paid $66k including taxes for my Euro delivery f80, and don’t see where the extra $40k of cost is going)

Yes, those were bigger cuts and does hurt resale.

Sucks to be an early adopter sometimes; like when tesla suddenly switched to HW2 from HW1 for autopilot.

Edit: just got software update today that gave 5% more power, and track mode a while back

Imagine if BMW gave over the air updates to make all the early cars have ZCP tune for engine and GTS tune for DCT and euro mdm option?

Can over the air updates improve the looks too? That is one ugly, ugly car...

That said, I might consider it next gen if they improve the looks a bit as I do like everything else about it.

You should consider that some parts of my post are sarcastic. I don't like Tesla and I will never buy or rent one. This a BMW forum because we the ultimate driving machine with a real petrol engine and an nice exhaust sound! Tesla's are anyway overpriced with poor quality building and design

Hahaha, yea that’s true. If you don’t like the looks that’s a huge deal breaker.

There are so many EV coming out, there’s no need to rush.

Agreed. I think the market in 2 to 3 years will be very interesting.

I’m hopefully that the earnings call claims are true, and that in 2 years model 3 will be fully self driving (especially for freeways).

Even if Tesla disappears as a company in the future, the level of innovation they are forcing on the industry is huge.

High on my wishlist is an electric Cayman competitor. EV capability and commuting excellence, with sports car body shape would be awesome.

Yea I bet they would put all the weight in the rear of the 911 for tradition. They call their top EV model “turbo” out of traditional after all

Mid batteries and motors between axles is the norm already today

Received an over-the-air update the other day that added about 5% more power (~25 hp.)

Yes, really.

Should result in about an 11.6 second 1/4 mile time.
