Yeah it's unfortunate the switch is on that side.

So this is a dumb question but how do I connect to BimmerLink/BimmerCode with the bm3 WiFi obd, I tried everything that was listed in the obd type. Thanks for any help.

Use the enet wifi setting. Make sure the adapter is fully seated and the light turns green when the ignition is on.

Yes it will, I've used it on: protool, bimmercode, bimmerlink, and even MHD without any issues.

Any updates on the battery drain issue while the adapter is left plugged in? I just received mine yesterday and left it plugged in overnight. I woke up to a battery warning that my car's battery was low. I guess I'll have to take it out every time I am done using it.

Nothing yet, but for some reason my car doesn't have this issue. It leaves a code that something is drawing a current, but no low battery warning.

Also I believe bm3 said on/off mode only works for the G series right now because the G series send an ignition status signal to the OBD2 port whereas the F series doesn't.

No problem I don't mind, post wherever you want.

That's strange, it should be working with the G series. Do you have the v3 or v2 adapter? You should contact bm3 for more help.

It's a V3 adapter. I did open up a support ticket so we'll see where it goes.

You mean this MHD adapter?

So this orange adapter isn't enet capable and meant mainly for the E series, so it's a stupidly slow adapter on the F series platform, imo this adapter is pretty much garbage for the F series and newer cars. This adapter also might not work for a lot of F series and newer cars that require enet to properly interface with the car, so tuning and coding apps. The bm3 adapter is enet capable so it is significantly faster, it also will have customizable wifi encryption soon so that will make it alot nicer and safer than the MHD adapter as well.

Also you can use the bm3 adapter with esys and ISTA, you can't with the orange MHD adapter.

They should be on par in terms of speed and capabilities in terms of being enet capable and what bmw protocols they can access, but I think the bm3 adapter has more features enroute. For example wifi password customization and other features that I can't mention yet. The bm3 adapter also has an on/off switch that should be accessible on RHD cars, so you can turn on/off the adapter at will.

So I personally prefer the bm3 adapter.

It's up to you, the v3 has the auto sleep but that only works on the G series for now. So yeah I suppose you can save money and just buy the v2a, since the sleep won't work on the F series for now. But there's also the consideration of resale, if you every want to resell the adapter everyone will want the v3, especially as G series cars begin to dominate the market share. So there's that consideration too, plus if you ever switch to a G series you're going to want a v3.

Btw what are you using the adapter for? That's a pretty important question too.

Thanks for the reply, only using for bootmod3 and Bimmercode, sick of pulling out my laptop whenever I want to make changes.

It seems like the MHD adapter works with both F/G series and also has auto sleep from what I can see.

No problem.

Yeah it's annoying to always have to plug in a cable and get a laptop to make BM3 changes, wireless is so much more convienent.

The BM3 V2A adapter is also compatible with the F and G series, but it's cheaper because it doesn't have the sleep mode. I'm also willing to say that the MHD adapter's sleep mode won't work on the F series either because the F series doesn't send an ignition status signal to the OBD2 port like the G series does.

So quick update with the v3 wifi adapter. I complained to support that my adapter was draining my battery and would not go to low-power mode on my 2018 540i. They brushed me off as if it was my old battery's fault. This did not seem right. After I told them again that I did another test and I noticed that after 30 to 60 minutes the adapter was still broadcasting a wifi signal and did not appear to sleep like it was advertised to do so on G series vehicles, they admitted a problem. Here is the response:

Just like in F series ignition on status seems to not be sent on the OBD canbus like with the Gen2 G series cars and the adapter isn't able to detect it to use it for the automatic shutdown. Since we don't have the ignition status as a trigger for automatic shutdown like on Gen2 G series cars, the auto-shutdown isn't a possibility on that car.

Umm, can I have my $20 back that I paid to upgrade to v3 over v2a since you advertised low power mode with G-series and Supra vehicles?

I'm not sure why the sleep mode isn't working on some G series cars, I know it doesn't work on the F series but it should work on the G series.
