The douchebaggery of M owners is real. Just look at the General topics section of F80 forums. Having said that if you paid more or nearly same money for M340i rather than an M3 - you missed out and that's all on you.

Lol. Owners of M340i will start telling people their car is more powerful than M3 based on it having bigger number. M3 is baseline entry. M340 is top of the line powerhouse.

Obviously this is nothing but a sales tactic, look at what Mercedes does with the 43 line and what Audi has turned the S line into. If anyone is really confused on why BMW is doing this branding change, look at the thread on the main page titled "BMW M Hit Record Sales in 2019." If you combine pedestrian cars sales with Halo car sales, you're padding numbers & hoping to sell more volume cars based on prestige.
Personally, I think they should bring the "iS" subbrand back. If makes much more sense.

I'm sure it's been said before but all I see this doing is pushing prices higher for E9x and earlier models. Maybe the F8x chassis will get love too but the older M's should appreciate slightly.

I like these threads. Reminds me of my fighter pilot days. I flew the F/A-18 and it was the best fighter in the world. The F-14 guys drove a dinosaur, the Air Force guys were all weanies with their ascots and golf courses. We spent endless hours talking about how we were better and then hours in the air fighting each other. Everyone always came away knowing they were the best. Not just thinking, actually knowing it with al their heart and soul. I would never in a million years admit that an Eagle driver was better than me. Even if he was gunning my brains out at the time. This was more about the pilots than it was about the aircraft and their performance. We had to think we were the best. You don't win by thinking you are ok.
Ya'll are doing the same thing. It ain't about the cars, it's all about the egos. I can say that when it came time to go to battle, all the egos fell away and the aircraft that we always knew were the best at what they were designed for always got the right job. And sometimes that meant I was not out front killing all the Migs. |

I still think about all the cars I've owned and E92 is the only one I should've kept long term. I had ESS full exhaust and it sounded incredible.

A car especially one that is not handcrafted and off an assembly is a mechanical machine that's engineered. It's a suspension, drivetrain/differentials, transmission and engine on a chassis managed by an ECU and TCU that can be unlocked or swapped and scientifically adjusted. Anything can be engineered however the F you want. I know a couple people that turned their 135i's into complete 1M track builds from the ground up spec for exact spec and much better with better parts that would smoke a stock 1M in all aspects drivetrain and suspension wise. I know a guy in LA who wanted a F80 M3 wagon here in the states with deep pockets so he did the entire conversion part for exact part, panel to panel to OEM specs even the axel width... with better than M parts. It's the most badass M3 I think I've seen. It's a mechanical machine, that's all. Not some handcrafted prototype. Have you ever heard of SEMA?? (probably not smh) yeah go look it up before you just start spewing... |

I'm just going to start viewing these as trims now with the "actual" M the top trim level.
Way too many M versions out, I do like how simplistic Audi does it...S-Line, S variant, RS variant.

Why? An S-line is the worst of all as it's just a trim package. All car manufacturers need to get rid of trim packages. These new MP's M340i, M550i, M850i, XM40i etc. are well engineered machines with locking differentials, track rated suspension, BBK's etc. Pound-for-pound these cars are equivalent to the Audi S' while the actual M Motorsport cars are compared to the RS class. BMW just has tiers "above" that are track friendly such as the M2CS, etc.

exactly... it is just about egos not the cars. so childish in my opinion. if i could speak for all the m340i drivers i would say... keep the rights for the m badge. the m340i is just a 3 series with enhanced power... so many egos would get happy. i dont need a m badge on my car to have fun with it. |
