$110k on road with Comp Wheels for a 2018 M3 Pure Or $118k for a new 2017 Giulia Q.V. He was going to think about it over weekend before finalising the deal. Advantage for Alfa is that Zagame are throwing in 0% interest rate finance. I went to test drove both cars on Friday with him. Obviously M3 is an M3 is an M3 all day long. But the Giulia was interesting. Better sounding exhaust. Really deep and a crack of a whip sound on upshifts. Infotainment is Rubbish on Alfa. No HUD. Fit and finish was well short of M3. The ZF Auto whilst nice ain’t no DCT. 19” alloys only. Part of me wants him to buy the better product being M3. But part of me would be happy for him to buy the Alfa so we can have a variety of models and brands on our drives to Alpine roads, or reefton etc. |

$110 K on road with comp pack wheels - I would jump at that. Without a second thought.
Auto journalists went bananas with the Alfa early on falling just short of saying Jesus would return driving it for the second coming. It's a good car but is it great - no. It's no where close to an M3. And it's all those annoying things like the infotainment system that would get on my nerves as a daily driver. Plus there is the Alfa reliability stain also. |

I haven’t mentioned before but apart from my wife’s X3, the M3 is my first BMW since 1990 and in that time I’ve had 17 different Alfa Romeo’s (Apart from the odd Audi, Merc, Renault, Citroën and Peugeot).
Alfa reliability is terrible and that why most of us Alfisti buy a car, it’s with the heart and open wallet knowing very soon we’ll be up for major repairs out of warranty. But other brands have the occasional hiccup like SMG’s, VANOS’, and IMS’. The Giulia is a great car and from my drive, a very good daily drive due to that Auto.....But the M3 will overwhelm it in the twisties. |

the alfa is the better sports sedan, but where it fails as an owner proposition is the reliability
i don't think i've seen one mag or video review where the supplied car hasn't broken down which is a shame, because the engine sound and dampening quality fills a void seriously lacking with the f80 improvements in trim quality will come with a facelift soon enough, it's not uncommon for development budgets to be restrictive here when building a completely new car - jag with XE and Fpace springs to mind, first gen cars were pretty average but they've steadily gotten better each year at 118k though, down from the initial 160odd, id give it a go Last edited by domino_z; 04-10-2018 at 09:40 PM.. |

So a a bit of an update on that.
The decision has firmed up but deposit has not yet been given at $118K because he is still trying to find a way of retrofitting a 5th Seat belt for the rear middle passenger. It looks like he may have to go down the path of having one fitted into the existing position (Non QV Giulia's have the 5th seat belt) and have an engineer's report done for it.....The headaches....OMG. On the reliability, the reports from management at Zagame is that not a single test car in Australia has failed as the cars did in US road tests. Apparantly, the Giulia's delivered in Australia go through a more rigorous Pre-Delivery check to ensure all latest software is in the car. After all is done, I am very happy for him as his heart was in the Giulia, and it gives me a chance to experience driving next to the competition on our spirited drives. |

Good lord, I saw the thread title which said M3 and $119K...and was like what the heck M3 costs $119K...then I saw Australia. You guys just get killed on your car prices!
I bought a fully loaded 2016 M3 with about 29km on the clock for $55,000 USD |

$55k is around $75k AUD , in Aust a new car valued above $63k gets a tax called Luxury Car Tax which is levied at 33% , then you get GST on the LCT adding around 45% tax to the value of the car above the LCT threshold. Got to love living in one of the worlds highest taxed country's |

And free education. Or at least heavily subsidised. My medical degree cost $36,000 which was deducted as 5% of my income once qualified.
It's not all bad here but yeah, the cars are expensive.

This is getting off topic...
$119k is still ridiculously good value in my opinion.

Can someone tell me if the Pure comes with Comfort Access? There is one little thing that BMW has not shout about with the Pure. Go to the website and do a two car comparison between it and the CP. It’s 50kg lighter!

Dont limit yourself , comp packs ( before lci 2 ) can be had for a good price. A standard non cp car might also make sense financially if you plan to tune / mod. |

Hard to see that as 50kg worth? |

Ive already got one. Just being greedy as usual haha. But I honestly feel like the Pure is bargain of the century. Thinking of swapping a M2 for it for a while until the M2 Competition comes.
